Today we’d like to introduce you to Abdul-Aziz Muhammad.
Abdul-Aziz, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I was born in Alexandria, Minnesota. My mother had my sister and I when she was 17 and in college. She finished school but Things were never got easier for us. We moved to Arizona when I was 12 years old. My mother was a teacher during the day and worked at a group home at night. I never met my father. I had a lot of responsibility growing up because our mom would frequently be at work at night. I always knew I wanted to be a business owner, I got my first job at a restaurant when I was 14. My dream was to owner my own restaurant, I was just never passionate about cooking. When I was 16, I fell in love with shoes…So Got a job at Robert Wayne. I have always been passionate about my work, nothing has ever been just a job to me. I was always the best at what I did when they fired me I couldn’t understand why but I was blessed to have a good friend who knew how much I cared and ended up hiring me to work for Quickcare shoe cleaner.
My first day I sold the most and made the most money… my hot streak continued for weeks until the owner insisted on knowing who I was. He eventually introduced me to the state fairs, which I would travel to every year. Ten days at a time, about six states. When I was 21, I decided it was time to invest in myself. You can only be the good for someone else for so long until it’s time to be the best for yourself. It took me a whole year to save to open my business. I had to watch my co-workers splurge and my friend’s party… I ate one meal a day for months to save all the money I made daily. But once the year was up, I opened my business at the Phoenix premium outlets. I am 27 years old now, I have been in business for five years. I have created new business owners, and I have owned over 20 locations in 8 different states. I am currently workin on my clothing brand and my record label “Not Your Boyfriend Productions.” If you take anything from my story, I think that it would be to always value your work ethic, strive to be the best at what you do. People won’t like you when you’re good but they’ll respect you, and nobody can take that away from you.
Has it been a smooth road?
My mother had two kids when she was 17 and in college. We grew up in Arizona very poor. I had to save and starve to open my business.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Quickcare Shoe Cleaner – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of and what sets you apart from others.
We are a kiosk shoe cleaner business, I have 3 locations in the valley. Superstition, Arizona mills, Phoenix premium outlets. I’ most proud that my business teachers young minds how to understand business, I love that my employees make money daily and they get to grow quickly whether it’s with the company or as a person. My business has taken homeless employees and gave them a new mindset.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I love the weather, I love the people, how easy it is to get around and the vibe. I dislike that we lack connections with each other as business owners and musicians. People are selfish out here.
