Meet Abby Fenzel of Copper Blossom Events

Today we’d like to introduce you to Abby Fenzel.

Hi Abby, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for sharing your story with us – to start, maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers.
I started in the wedding industry at 18, interning with the magazine San Diego Style Weddings. A summer full of styled shoots, and I was hooked on all of the details that go into a wedding. As time passed and my friends started to get married, I enjoyed helping source vendors, bringing their ideas & visions to life, and ensuring that things went off without a hitch. I’ve always wanted to help people in whatever capacity I can, and making sure your wedding day or milestone event goes off with no issues is one of the greatest gifts I can give. Through various jobs in my career, I’ve always been a party planner. Whether it was a Christmas party for a team of 30 or a corporate launch for 1500 people, tying all the pieces together and seeing the execution come together brings me great joy. In 2021, one of my friends asked me if I’d be willing to be their wedding coordinator, and she wanted to pay me. We ended up settling on a number that, in my head, was too high and, in hers, was too low, but since it was real money, I was determined to do my very best. Leading up to the wedding, I loved working with a fantastic team of vendors to make the day go smoothly. On their wedding day, I was on-site for 14 hours and thrived in every moment. Driving home that night, I knew I’d found my absolute passion.

Would it have been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Starting a business is exciting. It’s also terrifying. As a one-woman operation, I am responsible for event planning and coordination, accounting, social media, content creation, business development, sales, and day-to-day operations. My parents owned their businesses (a furniture store and a boutique clothing store), so I grew up watching them both make it happen. It’s not for the faint of heart, but the reward of folks booking with me and then complimenting my services make it all worth it!

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next, you can tell us more about your business.
Copper Blossom Events is a Phoenix-based wedding and event planner. I specialize in weddings (both full planning and month of coordination), the events surrounding weddings (bachelor/ette parties, rehearsal dinner, day after brunch, etc.), and milestone events (birthday parties, baby showers, anniversary parties, etc.). Copper Blossom’s branding is a nod to Copper, one of the 5 C’s of Arizona’s economy, and the Saguaro Blossom, our state flower. As a 4th generation Arizonan, it’s important to me to continue the legacy of our great state. One of my biggest goals at an event is to seamlessly blend in with your family and friends to make things go smoothly and leave you with the happiest memories. I’m thrilled to have won The Knot’s “Best Of Wedding Planners” for 2023! It’s an honor to have received that award in my first year of business, and I look forward to what’s on the horizon for Copper Blossom!

Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting?
Building relationships is key with your clients and other folks in the industry. Put yourself out there, and your voice will be heard. Your friends and family should be your biggest advocates and cheerleaders (shoutout to my parents and husband for all their support!). Believe in yourself and your dream; you’ve got this!
