Malaun Rice shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.
Malaun, a huge thanks to you for investing the time to share your wisdom with those who are seeking it. We think it’s so important for us to share stories with our neighbors, friends and community because knowledge multiples when we share with each other. Let’s jump in: What makes you lose track of time—and find yourself again?
I love music! I can put in my ear pods and get lost in 80’s retro, old school hop hop and r&b! Music helps me get through working out at the gym, long drives, house chores and getting work done. It’s the one time I don’t think about anything! I loose myself in the vibrations of the music and the nostalgia.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Malaun Rice. I am a Transformational Life Coach and Speaker. I teach people how to become the best versions of themselves. As humans we allow negative thinking and trauma to railroad EVERYTHING! I give clients tools to have a stronger mindset and not be afraid of life challenges. There will be challenges. It is ALL about how you handle them!! My hearts desire is to see people I have helped grow BUT they have to do the work.
Okay, so here’s a deep one: What breaks the bonds between people—and what restores them?
I believe a lack of communication breaks bonds. I have learned through my journey that if you look at the movie I am looking at concerning life and the one another person is looking at, you will see two different movies. Alot of times we may assume the other person should know certains things about us and they TRULY don’t. We have to be vulnerable and make them aware! What restores this is learning emotional intelligence. Learning to hold space for emotions to be expressed, learning to active listen, understand someone else’s point of view and showing empathy. This does not mean you don’t hold people accountable when needed.
When did you stop hiding your pain and start using it as power?
I stop hiding my pain and start using my power when I started to speak about being sexually assaulted at 10 years old. The first time I spoke about it, it was hard. As I continued to heal and seek therapy, it became easier. Some may ask how did it get easier. It got easier because it was no longer about me. I tell my story to help other men and women who have experienced this trauma. I encourage them to heal and understand that their focus should be on the future and what they want out of life.
Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. What truths are so foundational in your life that you rarely articulate them?
Love conquers all!!! It doesn’t matter what it is, love is the answer. It may be hard for people to see this as alot of people feel that currently our world is falling apart. Actually what is happening is we are being shown who we are as a people. I believe alot of us need to be reconnected to our Higher Power (God, Lord, Jehovah, Allah, Spirit, Universe etc.). That is the foundation of love!! I know my purpose here is to continue to learn how to love myself. Everything that has happen to me in life gave me a choice, A or B. Whichever one I picked either got me closer or further away to learning that. I love the woman I am becoming!
Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
They will say she taught us to CHOOSE YOU! She believed in having a strong mindset and did her best to get us to see. She was loyal and stood firm on what she believed even if nobody else agreed. She loved hard and understood who she was. She gave her all even when the ebbs and flows of life challenged her. She was very honest and vulnerable. She taught us how to see ourselves when we did not want to.
