Life & Work with Timilehin Dare of Lagos

Today we’d like to introduce you to Timilehin Dare.

Alright, thank you for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us how you got started?
So, I started the website/blog about 4 years ago after I was consistently pushed by my friends and co-workers to start something music-related. I initially started writing about rising artists and their music for fun. I honestly didn’t think it would turn into a business. About 2 years into writing, I got an email from the manager of an upcoming artiste wanting an interview with my platform. I was shocked because I honestly didn’t think anyone was paying attention to what I was doing. It all began with that interview. I’ve now had almost 40 artists come on the platform for interviews. Our followers have grown, and it’s just been an incredible journey. We’re currently trying to expand into offering playlisting services for rising artists across the major music platforms. We’re seeking curators or editors to help us achieve this goal, which will also greatly give emerging artists great visibility.

We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It hasn’t been smooth, mainly because I do everything myself. The platform would have grown faster if I had extra hands. My struggles mainly revolved around being rejected by artists. It was depressing seeing that most artists didn’t want to work with me because I wasn’t a big name yet. I still struggle with this aspect of things, but I get a lot less rejection mail now:)

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m a licensed Physiotherapist, but I’ve always been into music. I try to balance both aspects of my life, it’s never easy, but it’s always interesting to experience it. I’ve been a physiotherapist for almost 7 years now, and I still practice. I’m most proud that I ventured into the music space with no help at all, and I’ve made a tiny name for myself. I believe what sets me apart is my fierce determination. It can be annoying sometimes, to be honest. I don’t know how to quit things or give up. I guess it’s what keeps driving me forward.

What characteristic of yours would you give the most credit if you had to?
Determination! I’m not good at many things, but I push myself to be the best at the few things I believe I’m good at.

P.S I won’t say I’m successful, but I can see it happening. Lots of crazy ideas in my mind, and if your dreams don’t scare you, then you aren’t dreaming big enough.
