Today we’d like to introduce you to Tessa Wymer.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I grew up baking with my family. My dad, mom, grandma, and uncles, everyone cooked and baked! As I grew in my baking knowledge and experience, so did my interests in life. Specifically around health and inclusivity. I can remember being 13 years old and experimenting with recipes to make things vegetarian, vegan, or even just dairy free. I saw a need for those options in my community and I was determined to become the most inclusive baker I could be! Fast forward 12 years and I am now 25 years old running my own baking business where I offer treats for everyone, no matter a dietary restriction!
Whether someone is looking for something vegan, gluten-free, keto-friendly, dairy-free, or even good old traditional baked goods, I offer it all. I believe that everyone should be able to experience yummy, made-from-scratch treats and celebrate special occasions without fear of getting sick. For now, I continue to serve my community through social media and word-of-mouth referrals. Tessa’s Tasty Treats continues to grow and I am looking forward to where it takes me next!
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
I don’t believe anything is a smooth road, especially as a small business owner. The impact of the pandemic was huge on business. A lot of people focused on essentials and unfortunately, baked goods did not meet the mark for many.
This directly impacted business and drove down sales, for a while. I learned a lot during this time and was, thankfully, able to spend a lot of time experimenting with new recipes and expanding my business model. Since the start of 2023 I have been running in a full sprint, so I am grateful for the twists and turns along the way because they ultimately lend to growth.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am the owner and head baker of Tessa’s Tasty Treats. I specialize in quality, made-from-scratch baked goods, and provide options, at a fair price, for vegan, gluten-free, dairy-free, and traditional baked goods. I am also able to offer options for keto-friendly treats and low-fat treats. I am best known for my vegan treats, simply because people are always so shocked to learn something so delicious is vegan! My top vegan option is my signature vegan chocolate chunk cookie. With a secret ingredient that makes all the difference, it is my favorite cookie to make!
I am most proud of my business and the impact it makes on my community. I have had the luxury of being a part of so many different memorable moments in others’ lives, and that is my favorite thing about this work. From first birthdays to weddings, baby showers, and even corporate events, my treats, and my heart have been a part of them all. I remember every person I connect with and know how much it means to them to be able to offer delicious baked goods to their family, friends, or clients, and I carry that joy with me always.
In a world where dietary restricted options are becoming more and more obtainable, I think my heart and the quality of my baked goods set me apart from other businesses. I put my client’s needs and wants front and center, and always strive to deliver the best service and goods I possibly can.
What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
There are so so so many things to like about the valley. The thing I like most about Phoenix, and the greater Phoenix area is definitely the diversity. The diversity of people, lifestyles, interests, events, etc. There is so much room for growth and change, it constantly amazes me.
I enjoy learning and evolving every year I live here. The thing I like the least about the city would be how little it rains. I grew up in the Midwest, so sometimes is tough to not experience thunderstorms and rain very often.
However, I sure do enjoy it when it does rain.
