Today we’d like to introduce you to Ted and Kemet Childress.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Ted, The Incense Man started on the corner of 75th Ave and Mcdowell Rd with a 10-pocket apron, a cardboard sign and a Japanese coolie in the Summer of 2019. At the time, we were volunteering over at Spaces of Opportunity and that’s where we got invited to do our first farmer’s market in AZ. Since then, we have done many different events, festivals, and markets and have expanded into community sound therapy sessions, holistic workshops, and other vegan events of our own with our mother business Indigenous Descent.
At this moment, our home base is the Downtown Phoenix Farmer’s Market located off of Fillmore and Central and we are there every Saturday from 8AM-1PM!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Building a brand in the midst of a pandemic has not been easy but we were persistent and with the support of our community, we were able to thrive in such challenging times.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
We specialize in hand-dipped incense and essential oil blends. We can proudly say that our incense our the best freaking incense in AZ, if not the entire West Coast. They are additive-free, powder-free, and plastic-free and are made with nothing but essential burning oils and wood sticks. We also make crystal bracelets, anklets, and necklaces. Everything we make, we bless with our hands and we make sure we are in a great mood and are vibrating as high as we can be before we touch any product that we have.
What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
We really like the culture and the essence of community here in Phoenix. There is a lot of dope artists and artisans/business owners that we have met out here and continue to meet more every new event that we do. And there’s nothing noticeable that we don’t like about our city. We love Phoenix.
