Life & Work with Tau Tuvale of Old Town Scottsdale

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tau Tuvale.

Hi Tau, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
In 2007 I was referred by a friend to a bar called Zuma Bar & Grill. That day I’d interviewed at Olive & Ivy as well, and was offered jobs at both locations. I decided on Zuma because my friend had referred me and I didn’t want to make him look bad, though Olive & Ivy was the nicest place I’d set foot into in those days.

Unbeknownst to me, that security job would set me on a 20yr journey in nightlife. Since then, I’ve worked almost every front of house position in a bar or restaurant setting. Over the years I’ve been blessed to be allowed creative freedoms with a multitude of companies, which has lead to the birth of SideDoor Experience.

SideDoor is still in its infancy. Im a familiar face in town and I leverage that to show groups an insider experience that tours all the nightclubs in town. If you want to go, we can go. Nothing is off limits. It’s a true VIP experience.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The main growth stunt in my career was differentiating between being the party and providing the party. The line is often blurred when you’re the life of the party. People – including myself – can become consumed by the moment. That’s was a difficult concept to wrap my mind around in my 20s.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
The ongoing joke among friends is I’m the guy who will always get hired again. I’m professional enough to take a risk on, but I’ll always be perceived as a risk, nonetheless. I don’t act, or conform to the setting. And while the general public admires that about me, employers find me a little brash and offensive in my desire to be myself.

What was your favorite childhood memory?
Well shoot… looking back now, family. Time with my brother, especially. We take free time for granted. I don’t see the people that matter the most to me enough. I think everyone can agree that holds some degree of truth. I would have made more time if i could. All my goals now are to that end.
