Suzanne & Lisa, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Grumpy Dog Candle Co was started in 2014 and sold to us in 2021. We watched our friend start and build the company and always admired the work she was doing by turning old wine and liquor bottles in to unique and fun candles. So many bottles have unique designs or hold special memories for people. Being able to turn those bottles in to something that can be displayed and treasured instead of filling a landfill, makes us happy. We use soy wax, certified clean burning scent oil and all natural fiber wicks so your candle is toxin free so you can burn it safely in your home. Grumpy Dog was named after the original owners dog, Bailey and we had a grumpy dog of our own named Tempe so it just seemed right to keep the name.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Learning how to cut and sand glass bottles was a challenge that we tackled head first. We pride ourselves on our work so we’ve worked hard every day to insure the product we are putting out is top notch. Selling candles in the Arizona weather has been one of the biggest challenges but with so many great venues around the valley, we’ve found fun events to sell our things at.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
We specialize in making candles in wine and liquor bottles but also make candles in aluminum cans and tins. We can make drinking glasses out of bottles as well. We take great pride in sanding and polishing the tops of our bottles with a focus on making the edges smooth. With over 60 scents to choose from, it allows customers to make their gift truly one of a kind.

We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
We feel super lucky to have known the previous owner in our past professional lives and that she has trusted us to take Grumpy Dog Candles into the future. Running a small business is hard work but when we see the happiness our products bring, it makes it all worth it.
