Life & Work with Silk Degrees

Today we’d like to introduce you to Silk Degrees.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Want to hear a secret? I hate talking about myself, but I love when people talk about me. Oxymoron, right? LOL

Well for starters, I was born & raised in ATL, GA. From Nigerian background, Zenny is my biological brother & Goodie is mine from another mother. Goodie is also an Az native. Growing up, our parents did everything they could to make our living situations as comfortable as possible even in the hard times. My mother a bonafide hustler, showed us from an early age of what it meant to really go out and make shit happen. So that’s literally how my brothers & I attack life.

Music for me came in waves. What came to me instantly was dancing, but I never keyed into the vocal aspect of it. Luckily we got to listen to everything from jazz to MJ so it was easy for my ears to appreciate a vast range of music. I remember watching Michael Jackson’s “Bad” for the first time & being frozen in place. It’s like a meteor had hit the earth. I couldn’t quite fathom what I was watching, but my eyes knew they had to keep looking. That was one of those moments that you forget to breathe & the whole world stops. To see that another human being that breathes the same air as me could do that through music & dance was unexplainable.

Through our school, Most of my raw talent came in the form of dance & that’s what got people’s attention lol so I never did anything with music until freshman year of college. I went in as a computer engineer & left as a recording artist. LOL Talk about proud parents .. so after going through the “shame phase” most artists go through & even fewer make it past last I finally got to that space where you stop doing music & start becoming it. That’s when you see it really start to pay off.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I’ve never seen a smooth road, have you? Lol yeah like I said pursuing music is always met with undertones of shade. Never a considerable career path considering the world’s social climate. Every Uber driver & their mom does music so it’s easy for people to roll their eyes when you tell them the same thing. And there’s A lot of battles from within that have to be fought to be able to completely stand on your mountain without waiver.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Making sonic experiences. And I said that because that’s what we do as Most Wanted. We go in with the intention to create something freezes you in time. Something that moves you from earth to somewhere other. The process is always like a kid at the playground, freeing full of passion & curiosity but the intent is always calculated. What I’m most proud of is how we’ve turned into the source & how we keep making amazing music. And what sets us apart is the ability to leave all the bullshit at the door when we step into the studio. No ego. No insecurities. No stressin’. Just music.

What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
I wish I could see that much into the future: but know Most Wanted will be a huge part in shifting this thang forward.
