Today we’d like to introduce you to Sheila Odden
Hi Sheila, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I’m a proud dog mom to three little Yorkie divas—Sammie, Maddie, and Minnie—and they’re the heart of everything I do. Our journey started when we lived in Minnesota and, let’s just say, my girls were not built for the cold, especially Sammie. I wanted to keep them cozy, but in true extra fashion, I wasn’t about to settle for basic. So, I picked up a sewing machine and started creating cute little outfits that were both warm and fabulous.
Before I knew it, people were stopping us, asking where their clothes were from, and encouraging me to sell them—and boom, Miss Sophie Bowtique was born. What started as a cozy hobby quickly turned into a passion project, and now it’s a full-blown business where I design stylish outfits for pups who love to strut their stuff. On top of that, our social media (@sammie.n.maddie) took off, and now we’re creating content, collaborating with brands, and living our best glam, dog mom life. It’s been such an unexpected, sparkly ride—and I’m here for all of it!
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely hasn’t been a completely smooth road, but every challenge has helped me grow. Balancing a full-time job, running a small business, and managing social media for three pups can feel overwhelming at times—especially when it comes to time management and staying organized.
When I first started Miss Sophie Bowtique, I had no background in business or marketing, so there was a learning curve figuring out how to price products, promote them, and reach the right audience. Social media has also been a journey—understanding how to create content that connects with people, navigate ever-changing algorithms, and stay consistent takes effort and adaptability.
But I’d say one of the biggest challenges has been pushing past self-doubt. Putting yourself and your creations out there can feel intimidating, but I’ve learned to focus on my passion, trust my instincts, and stay true to what brings me joy. It’s not always easy, but it’s definitely worth it.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I wear a lot of hats—Project Manager by day, small business owner, content creator, fashion designer, and photographer by night (and weekends!). My business, Miss Sophie Bowtique, specializes in creating stylish, handmade outfits for small dogs—pieces that are not only functional but also full of personality. Think fashion-forward, fun, and a little extra—because our pets deserve to feel as fabulous as they look.
On social media (@sammie.n.maddie), I create content featuring my three Yorkies—Sammie, Maddie, and Minnie—showcasing everything from fashion to fun daily adventures. We’ve grown a strong, supportive community, and I love sharing moments that make people smile.
What I’m most proud of is that everything I’ve built came from a place of love. I started sewing outfits just to keep my girls warm in Minnesota winters, and it turned into something bigger than I ever imagined. What sets me apart is the personal touch—every piece I make is inspired by my own dogs, and I know what pet parents want because I am one. I focus on quality, style, and creating pieces that reflect the special bond we have with our pets.
It’s been such a rewarding journey, and seeing dogs all over the country (and beyond!) wearing my designs is something I’m truly proud of.
Can you share something surprising about yourself?
Something that often surprises people is that I’m entirely self-taught. I didn’t go to fashion school, take sewing classes, or study photography—I learned everything through trial, error, and a whole lot of YouTube tutorials. When I started Miss Sophie Bowtique, I didn’t even own a proper sewing machine—I just had a passion for creating and a desire to make my girls feel cozy and cute.
Also, a lot of people assume I work full-time in my business or social media, but I actually have a demanding full-time job as a Project Manager in the financial industry. Balancing both worlds takes hustle and love for what I do—but it’s proof that when you care about something enough, you make the time.
Oh, and one more fun fact—I make almost all the outfits Sammie, Maddie, and Minnie wear in our content. So if you see something cute? There’s a good chance it was made in my sewing room with love (and maybe a little dog hair for good luck).
