Life & Work with Shalamar Jones of Maricopa

Today we’d like to introduce you to Shalamar Jones.

Hi Shalamar, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My name is Shalamar Jones. I was born and raised in SanDiego California and currently reside in Maricopa Arizona. I am a mother of 3 beautiful kids and a wife to my living and supportive husband. Since a you child I have always had a passion for photography. I grew up watching my father and his love for camcorders and seeing the joy on his face whenever he would record. I eventually developed a love for photography myself. I found it interesting how cameras worked and how creative you could get with them. I loved to capture moments that I knew I could look back on as the years went by, capturing memories that could last and be cherished for years to continue come. Much like my father did with his camcorder. I started off with taking images on my cell phone. I would get excited whenever I got a new phone and the very first thing I wanted to do was learn the camera and see how well it performed. I always tried to get as creative as possible when taking the images and would be so excited about the possibilities when it came to editing the images. I eventually became the one everyone went to when they wanted pictures done. Over the years my passion for photography grew stronger and when I got my very first actual camera (the one I currently use) I was so psyched and couldn’t be happier. I started off practicing portraits on myself and daughter and invested my time in learning all I could about my camera as well as the basics of photography. I learned techniques and tricks by watching other photographers and my skills and knowledge started to develop from there which has led me to where I am today. I am forever learning and growing and I look forward to what the future holds for me and my passion.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I struggled with getting the support I needed to gain my experience at first and I almost completely gave up on my passion. However I decided to give it another try and I am so glad I did. There are other challenges and struggles that I face still to this day but I know that it is all just apart of learning and growing.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am an ever growing photographer, known for the quality and creativity of my work. I am most proud of my growth and my ability to offer quality and still remain affordable.

What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
I have hopes to open my very own creative photography studio for other photographers to use for their needs in the near future.
