Today we’d like to introduce you to Serena Beach.

Hi Serena, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I started assisting when I was in high school so hair has been a part of my life for a very long time. I have been in the industry for 11 years and honestly never thought I would be a salon owner or even own my own business. I enjoyed doing what I loved, offering all services to my guests and not having to think about the business end of my industry. When the pandemic hit in 2020 I had a change of heart, I wanted to provide my guests with a specific experience. One that was as safe as possible, gave them a space to find tranquility and help them understand how to care for their natural curls/waves. This meant leaving a salon of 6 stylist (that I loved) and start my own business as a booth renting hairstylist in a very short time. I am so grateful for all of the support I have received and I am excited a see what the future brings!

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I often hear that “progress isn’t linear” and I remind myself of that every day. I am definitely a planner and would love for every aspect of this journey to play out perfectly. However  a starting a business in 3-ish months during a global pandemic was pretty much the opposite of that! I will never be done learning how to provide my guests with the best experience and I continue to take each moment that doesn’t go as smooth as anticipated as a lesson and what to do better next time.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
About 80% of people have some kind of wave or curl in their hair and don’t even know it! I help woman discover their curls or waves, confidently understand them all while creating a routine that prioritizes self-care and overall health. Contrary to popular belief having curly hair takes effort and it is my priority to equip my guests with all the knowledge they need to love their curls/waves 24/7. It is also important to me that the products I use on my guests are healthy for both their hair and overall health so I use Innersense Organic Beauty products which contain all organic and pure ingredients.

Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
I am not a big believer in luck so I wouldn’t say that it has played a role in my business very much. However, I am starting to realize that life is full of opportunities and we can decide to take them or we can remain in our comfort zone. As nice as a comfort zone can be, it doesn’t allow us the room to grow or see our full potential. You don’t need things to go perfectly to have that growth. Sometimes you grow more from something that didn’t go right.
