Today we’d like to introduce you to Robert York.

Hi Robert, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
After working as an Occupational Therapy practitioner in the Institutional Western Medical system, I needed a break and fresh air from the institutional setting and began working as a Hiking/Biking Guide. In 2019 I purchased Southwest Guided Adventures. The Covid shutdown and Post shutdown was difficult on the tourism industry, but made obvious how important the natural setting is for our physical, mental, spiritual, and overall well-being. We stepped back to add a new Holistic Therapeutic Approach to our activities. In addition to offering clients a great basic experience hiking and biking in the Sonoran desert, we can also address physical deficits(balance), and incorporate activities and education such as Breathing Techniques, Yoga, and Mediation to enhance the experience and overall wellness.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has been very hard, as I purchased the company just a few months before covid and tourist basically dried up. Tourism was our main source of clients. The lack of tourism was a motivator to move into the therapeutic hiking trying to attract local clients. We also struggle with the digital world and trying to connect through social media. We don’t have the money to hire someone to keep relevant in the digital arena.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
With vast experience in competitive sports at an All American Level along with my construction management degree and occupational therapy degree have given me a wide variety of experiences. My life experiences have lead me to the holistic approach to healing and well being. I have spent time learning about the body, mind and spirit function together. I bring this knowledge to the clients I serve, going beyond a simple hiking or biking experience.
