Life & Work with Pavel Mares

Today we’d like to introduce you to Pavel Mares.

Hi Pavel, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I was born in Brno, Czech Republic. Grew up in a countryside on a Czech / German border. Have always had passion for music and fashion, but never traveling, until I turned 17 and experienced my first trip abroad (UK) to improve my English skills. I have loved it so much that upon my return I begged my parents to go again for longer. They supported me in this and at 18 y.o. I have left for Tucson Arizona and graduated from high school there.

Ever since this experience, Arizona has been like my second home. It was also Arizona that made me want to pursue my lifelong dream: a professional music career. After starting a few bands, I finally found myself in DJing. Upon returning to Europe, I have DJed professionally for about 5-6 years, managed to fly back to the States and play a few gigs here, and have felt very accomplished after the 2018 USA mini-tour.

It wasn’t until the covid lockdown where I went back to creating my own music. Again, despite being in Europe, Arizona played a crucial role in me coming back to restarting and reimagining my music career – the first video for my single “BONES” was shot and directed by @differenttakes in Tucson, AZ!!!!

Now, 3 years later I am back in Phoenix area, working with local talents such as @dr3guwop in music and Sinclair Salinas in fashion.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The biggest struggle is that as a DJ it takes a little practice and soon can become a nice side hustle or turn into a full-time job. with making original music the costs are much higher (studio, music vids, production, etc.), and making the money from streams isn’t really it, but it is my biggest passion and I believe I will make it!!! 2022 is going to be very different, especially with me changing my primarily Czech songs (my native language) into making only English songs in 2022

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I make music which is a unique mix influenced by pop-punk bands such as blink 182, sum41, but including trap beats which bring in the vibe of both punk and hip-hop influence. I collaborate with artists from around the globe: Artur Oceanwood from Russia, LuckySings from Nigeria, Freako Bandeedo from California, Tennisxclub and Osama Verse from Toronto, or UMP Beats from the Czech Republic. 90 percent of my music is in 2 languages so it can please a local or an international listener

If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
I was a shy kid that never really stood out. ever since I’ve lived in Arizona it changed. now I am the life of the party, most extravagant and person you won’t forget. ever. sometimes for good reasons sometimes for… ehhh… let’s not go there hehe
