Life & Work with Paul Fuentes of London, UK

Today we’d like to introduce you to Paul Fuentes.

Paul Fuentes

Hi Paul, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I am a Mexican artist and photographer, known for my modern pop designs of everyday objects and my travel photography of surrealistic shots in dreamy places with a nostalgic vibe. The unique Palm Springs architecture, classic cars and big cats chilling by the pool have become my signature style.

In 2015, I started my own business and met my wife, Ilse. We now live and work together in London, one of the world’s premier art hubs, famous for its museums and art galleries scattered throughout its vibrant neighborhoods.

We collaborate with several print stores and galleries, and participate in prominent art fairs both in the UK and internationally. Additionally, we have our own store that offers exclusive fine art prints.

My work has been featured in campaigns for brands such as Apple, Armani Exchange, Dior, and Gucci. In 2021, I was honoured with the prestigious Hasselblad Master award, one of the world’s most esteemed professional photographic competitions.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
My journey has been unexpectedly smooth! I never imagined owning my own business, but the growing popularity of my Pop-Art Mashups quickly opened my eyes to this possibility. This success made me realize that creating images was my true passion. Embracing this opportunity, I decided to take the leap and start my own business.

In 2018, I launched Paul Fuentes Photo, a project that offered a vibrant and unique perspective on the world. Capturing dreamy places oozing with mid-century nostalgia and staying true to my pastel palette. This collection has given me the chance to showcase and sell my work at different venues, including fine art galleries and art fairs.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?

My photographs are multi-layer image, with elements separated and then brought together to create one cohesive work of art.
A lot of my work is like painting, as I precisely recreate natural shadows, highlights, reflections, and hairs in an organic manner. What sets my work apart is my ability to emulate film and vintage photography by designing custom filters and blending them with high-resolution medium format files. This results in a unique fusion of digital and analog techniques, presented in a contemporary style.

Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
Consistency. By consistently taking small steps towards our goals, we increase our chances of success. Whether it’s learning a new skill, adopting healthy habits, or overcoming challenges, consistency allows us to make progress.
