Today we’d like to introduce you to Oriana Lehman Wood.
Hi Oriana, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I didn’t grow up dreaming of being in real estate — I grew up around *entrepreneurship*. My mother built a successful international textile business, and from an early age I watched what it meant to work hard, take risks, and build relationships that last. That foundation shaped how I approach business to this day.
My real estate career began nearly two decades ago, during a time when the market — and the industry — was very different. I learned quickly that success wasn’t about transactions; it was about people. Listening deeply, understanding motivations, and showing up consistently became the cornerstones of my work. I built my business one relationship at a time, often through referrals, repeat clients, and community connections — long before social media and digital marketing became the norm.
Arizona has always been home. I’ve had the privilege of watching this market evolve, neighborhoods transform, and families grow through multiple chapters of life. Over the years, my role has expanded beyond traditional brokerage work into advising on luxury developments, second homes, and investment properties — including serving as sales director for new development projects that help shape our city’s future and settling clients into their futures.
What I’m most proud of isn’t volume or rankings (though I’m grateful for them); it’s trust. Clients often come to me during moments of transition — upsizing, downsizing, relocating, challenging, stressful and exciting periods of their lives. I support their redefining what “home” means — and my job is to make that process feel clear, calm, and supported. That mindset has allowed me to grow alongside my clients and community.
Today, I see my work as part advisor, part connector, and part steward of place. Phoenix is a city built on vision and resilience, and I’m passionate about contributing thoughtfully — whether that’s mentoring agents, supporting local arts and philanthropy, or helping clients make confident, well-informed decisions.
My story is still being written, but at its core it’s always been about relationships, integrity, and staying rooted in the community that made it all possible.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Has the road been smooth? Not at all — and I think that’s an important part of the story.
Like most long-term careers, mine has been shaped as much by challenges as by successes. I entered the industry after a successful career in Non-profit and Corporate global airline world. I navigated it solo which I would NOT recommend to new agents but I learned. And I built confidence, credibility, and boundaries — especially as a woman in a competitive, relationship-driven business —it took time. The market cycles were another teacher. I’ve built my business through boom years, downturns, pandemic – moments of real uncertainty, and each phase required adaptation, discipline, and humility.
There were also personal seasons where I was balancing growth in my career alongside family, community commitments, and evolving priorities. That forced me to get very clear about how I worked, who I worked with, and what kind of business I wanted to build. I learned early that burnout doesn’t serve anyone — clients included — and that sustainability matters just as much as success.
Some of the hardest moments weren’t financial or transactional; they were emotional. Real estate often intersects with major life changes, and carrying that responsibility while maintaining high standards can be demanding. But those experiences sharpened my ability to listen, stay calm under pressure, and guide people through complexity with clarity and empathy.
Looking back, the road wasn’t smooth — but it was meaningful. The challenges didn’t slow the journey; they shaped it. They taught me resilience, perspective, and the value of doing business in a way that feels grounded, intentional, and human.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
At its core, my work is about advising people through some of the most important decisions of their lives — with clarity, discretion, and care. I’m a luxury real estate advisor focused on Scottsdale and Paradise Valley and the overall Phoenix Valley, I specialize in high-end residential properties, second homes, investment opportunities including 1031 exchange, and select new development projects.
Over time, my role has evolved beyond traditional brokerage services. I’m often brought in as a strategic partner — helping clients evaluate timing, positioning, design decisions, and long-term value, not just price. I work with a wide range of clients, from local families to out-of-state and international buyers, many of whom are navigating relocations or major life transitions and their largest financial decisions of their lives.
What I’m most proud of is the trust I’ve built. Much of my business comes from repeat clients and referrals. That tells me I’m doing something right. I’m known for being a strategic negotiator, calm under pressure, highly responsive, and deeply prepared — someone clients can rely on to simplify complex situations and advocate for them effectively.
What sets me apart is how personal the work is for me. I don’t run a volume-driven business, and I’m very intentional about who and how I serve. I combine nearly two decades of market knowledge with a concierge-level approach — anticipating needs, communicating clearly, and protecting my clients’ time, privacy, and interests.
I’m also proud of my involvement in projects that help shape my profession and our community, whether that’s working on thoughtfully designed developments, mentoring newer agents, or supporting arts, education, and philanthropic efforts across Arizona. For me, success isn’t about individual transactions — it’s about contributing to a market and a city in a way that feels meaningful and lasting and making a difference in the future of the clients who work with me.
How do you think about happiness?
What makes me happiest is connection — to my family, to the places we love, and to the people I have the privilege of working with.
Family is always at the center. Supporting my children in their individual pursuits, cheering them on, and watching them grow into who they’re becoming brings me more joy than anything else. Time with my husband — especially in Lake Tahoe — is grounding for me. Whether we’re traveling together, taking trips with the kids, or simply stepping out of the rhythm of everyday life, those moments reset and inspire me. I’m also deeply grateful for time with my mother and for staying connected to extended family and friends; those relationships keep me rooted and remind me where I come from.
I genuinely love my work, too. Meaningful collaboration with colleagues — particularly within the Sotheby’s International Realty network — energizes me. There’s something incredibly fulfilling about working alongside people who value excellence, integrity, and relationships as much as I do.
And finally, nothing compares to the moment when a client knows they’ve made the right decision. Seeing someone truly overjoyed in a new home — confident, excited, and at peace — is the greatest feeling. It’s the reason I do what I do, and it’s what makes my work so deeply satisfying.
