Life & Work with Noah Shephard of Phoenix

Today we’d like to introduce you to Noah Shephard.

Hi Noah, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I was born and raised in NM until coming out to Phoenix, AZ in 2014 to pursue more opportunities in music! In 2010, I joined the band Vivicide while I was still living in NM, traveling back and forth to play shows. I seriously loved the music and the guys so it made me motivated to keep showing up for it. In 2014, I made plans to move up there for the band then, ironically enough, we broke up. Nonetheless, I still decided to make the move due to the lack of music and opportunity in my home town. After that, I helped start the band Hado which lasted a few years, then I joined my current bands, The Ephemeral and Phage. I equally love playing bass and drums live so I decided to have outlet for both instruments.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
To put it lightly, no. No matter what profession you decide to go in or passion to follow, there needs to be struggles otherwise you just go in circles. I suppose the biggest struggle is dealing with myself in all of this. Things happen in life, sure, but you can either be a victim or see it as an obstacle to overcome.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Currently, I play drums in the metal band, The Ephemeral as well as bass in, Phage. I love focusing on the technical elements in both bands, feeling a sense of pride and ownership accomplishing playing/performing ridiculous parts. I’d say I’m the most proud of the fact that I’m in 2 bands with the best guys on the planet. Just genuinely good dudes all around. I find that to be rare.

I honestly don’t know if anything separates us from other bands. We all just try to create genuine and honest art. Most of the bands in PHX are incredible. We all have something unique to bring to the table. That’s inspiring to me.

Do you any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
My brother and I listening to “Fame” by David Bowie for days on end.
