Life & Work with Niesha Harris of Mesa

Today we’d like to introduce you to Niesha Harris.

Hi Niesha, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Before I got to where I am today, I was struggling to make ends meet and to keep bills paid. I was working a job I hated and had to commute almost 2 hours there and back for 5 days a week. I lost that job due to COVID. It was around the time the first outbreak occurred. I was out of work for almost 7 months. So with that free time I was allowed and needed so much, I used it to perfect my craft and grow my business(s).

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road…. Being unemployed while living in Chicago, IL was a challenge. Even though I was receiving unemployment I could barely get by with that and try to save. Cost of living is high there so you can imagine how much it is to rent. Money management was something I had to get hip with at that point! Lol but being unemployed helped me to realize that I needed to start something of my own. For longevity… & fast.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I wear many hats to be honest. Lol I have a streetwear brand, BETTERDAYSAHEAD ATELIER that I recently just launched and will have ready for preorder 7/11. Website coming soon! I am also a music producer and this I what I’m majorly known for. I graduated with my associates in Applied Science from SAE Institute of Chicago in 2019.
I love fashion, art and music and I feel that they all go hand in hand with one another.
I’m most proud of graduating college. That was a challenge for me being an introvert. I feel like I could’ve flourished a bit more in school but I don’t dwell and I believe that everything happens for a reason, at least I graduated.
Graphic design has been something I’ve been into as well. I make anything from flyers to albums covers, etc.
Some things that I feel sets me apart from most is my work ethic and attention to detail.
I’ve always been told that I work too hard or I’m a workaholic lol
I don’t quit until the job is done.
But I’m also a perfectionist so sometimes things won’t get done because of that.
I had to find some type of balance so I wouldn’t be stagnant.

What’s next?
I plan on not planning lol I just go with the flow. I’ve come to realize that plans don’t always seem to go as planned so I focus on the present, which will ensure a bright future if I’m taking the right steps and staying focused… I am looking forward to my brand(s) growing and myself as well. Those will be my big changes.
