Today we’d like to introduce you to Nailsnob.
Hi Nailsnob, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I grew up surrounded by the beauty industry, my mom owned a nail salon for many years, so nails were a part of my world from the very beginning. Being in that environment inspired me early on, and over time, I naturally developed a talent for art and painting, long before I ever planned to become a nail artist.
As I got older, I branched out and pursued my own path. I earned my master’s degree and stepped into the corporate world, determined to become a true corporate baddie. During that time, I worked in web design for small businesses, which gave me valuable experience in branding, marketing, and customer experience skills I later used to support my mom’s business as well as my own.
My mom eventually invited me to work part-time at her salon so I could earn extra income and stay connected to the beauty industry. She also taught at a local nail school, and through her guidance, my education in nails expanded even more. Watching her balance the business and artistic sides of the industry was incredibly inspiring.
When the pandemic hit, everything shifted. With salons shut down, I transitioned into working as an independent nail artist and opened my LLC as a sole proprietor. I started by doing house calls until we were allowed to work with the public again. Once things reopened, I took a chance, walked into a beauty salon down the street from my home, asked if they offered nail services, and eventually rented a small corner space where I built my clientele from the ground up.
After working independently for five years, I felt ready to take the next step. Drawing inspiration from my mom’s salon while creating a vision entirely my own, I decided to open my own nail studio.
And that’s how Nail Snob PHX was born out of family roots, artistic passion, resilience, and a whole lot of ambition!
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. I’ve had to pivot more times than I can count, and each stage of my journey came with its own set of challenges. One of the biggest struggles was finding a workspace that truly fit my needs. I needed something affordable, sustainable, and reliable. Somewhere I could confidently fall back on as I grew my business.
A major obstacle was the lack of proper plumbing in many of the spaces I toured. For a nail salon, that’s essential, and it made the search even more difficult. Eventually, I found an apartment that I was able to convert into a functioning nail studio. While some people love the unique apartment-style setup and see it as a creative solution, others aren’t as fond of it. Learning how to navigate mixed opinions while staying confident in my vision was a challenge in itself.
Another ongoing struggle has been finding reliable technicians. Building a solid team takes time, patience, and trust but I’m proud of the team I have now and excited to continue growing and adding the right people.
Every hurdle has taught me how to adapt, think creatively, and push forward, even when the process wasn’t easy.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
We specialize in all forms of nail art and natural nail care. From Gel-X and dry pedicures to acrylics, hard gel, and Luminary, we do it all. Our top priority is the health of your natural nails while making sure you leave feeling confident!
What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
One of the most important lessons I’ve learned is that not every problem belongs to me. Employee issues, personal conflicts, or situations outside my control can’t become the weight I carry as a business owner. I’ve learned to separate the two and protect my energy and focus.
I’ve also realized that not all money is good money, and not every opportunity is the right one. Choosing long-term stability, integrity, and alignment over short-term gains has been one of the most valuable lessons in my journey.
