Today we’d like to introduce you to Magical Katrina Kroetch.

Magical Katrina Kroetch

Hi Magical Katrina; we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I’d be delighted to walk you through my story. Since I was a tiny tot, magic has been a passion of mine. It all began when I was three, captivated by the vivid colors and enchanting storyline of ‘The Wizard of Oz.’ I was fascinated by the transformative power of the ruby slippers, the enigmatic magic of the witches, and the way they could create an alternate reality. That was when I realized I wanted to make my magic and inspire awe in others. But I didn’t start by pulling rabbits out of hats. Instead, my humble beginnings saw me performing magic tricks for my family and friends, from vanishing coins to the quintessential card tricks. I spent countless hours practicing, driven by my passion and the spark of joy I could bring to people’s faces. As I grew, so did my magic. I sought out mentors and devoured every book on magic I could get my hands on. I honed my skills, created my own unique performances, and began incorporating more elaborate illusions into my shows. Years of dedication led to my first public performance, and the response was overwhelming. The sparkles in the audience’s eyes, the gasps of wonder, the laughter – it was addictive. I knew then that this was more than just a hobby; it was my calling. My journey led me to perform at private parties, corporate events, and various stages nationwide. I’ve been incredibly fortunate to have opportunities to learn from the best in the industry and to work alongside some of the most talented magicians in the world, like Penn and Teller.

Today, I find immense joy in crafting magical experiences that transport my audience to a fantasy world, reminding them of the childlike wonder and magic in our everyday lives. Being able to spark that joy, awe, and wonder is the greatest magic of all. My love for magic has never wavered through all the challenges and triumphs. The magic inspired me in ‘The Wizard of Oz,’ Now, my mission is to inspire others with my own. I can proudly say that I am Katrina Kroetch, a female magician living my childhood dream, and the journey has been nothing short of magical.

We all face challenges, but would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The road to becoming a professional magician has indeed been anything but smooth. However, it’s in the struggle that we find our strength and discover our true potential. As a woman in a traditionally male-dominated industry, I faced many challenges. There was a pervasive stereotype that women could only be assistants in magic shows, which I was determined to challenge. At times, it felt like I had to work twice as hard to prove myself and show that my place was not just beside the magician but the magician. But every time I managed to captivate an audience, hear their gasps of surprise, and see their eyes filled with wonder, I knew that I was on the right path. Filming for television shows like ‘Penn and Teller’s Fool Us’ and ‘Masters of Illusion’ was another set of challenges. Performing magic live is one thing, but adding cameras can be daunting. You have to ensure that your act is flawless because, unlike in a live performance, there’s a chance for the audience to replay and dissect each move. The pressure was immense, but I learned so much from these experiences. Yes, there were many moments of self-doubt and fear along the way. But each struggle made me a better magician and a stronger person. I learned, adapted, and grew with every trick gone wrong and with every hurdle. Being a female magician in a male-dominated industry has had challenges, but it has also given me a unique perspective and approach to magic. I bring a fresh twist to traditional magic, emphasizing storytelling and connection with the audience. Above all, my journey has taught me the power of resilience and perseverance. It has reinforced the belief that passion, hard work, and dedication can break any barrier. It may not have been a smooth road, but I wouldn’t change a thing. Each struggle and each obstacle has made me the magician I am today.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
As a professional magician, I specialize in creating captivating, magical experiences that transport audiences into a world of wonder. I am known for my creative approach to magic, blending storytelling and classic illusions with my unique touch. Over the years, I have honed my craft to specialize in virtual magic shows, making me a proficient virtual magician. The advent of technology and the global shift towards virtual platforms presented a new challenge and opportunity. I embraced this change by translating my magic from the stage to the screen. As a virtual magician, I’ve connected with audiences worldwide, all from the comfort of their homes. Performing virtual magic shows requires a different skill set, and I’ve worked tirelessly to master this craft. It’s about more than just the magic; it’s about engaging with an audience through a screen, keeping their attention, and creating a sense of intimacy and connection despite the physical distance.

One of my recent proudest accomplishments is working on a magical music video with the talented singer Chappell Roan. The exciting project allowed me to consult with Chappell and her team to design magic specifically for the video. The experience was collaborative, pushing the boundaries of my creativity and challenging me to think outside the box. It was thrilling to integrate magic seamlessly into the music video narrative, adding a touch of enchantment to the musical journey. The video, released in June for Pride month, was a beautiful celebration of diversity, inclusivity, and the magic within us all. I am incredibly proud of our work and the message it conveyed. Search on YouTube for our music video: Red Wine Supernova, to see our work! What sets me apart as a magician, and particularly as a virtual magician, is my passion for creating magic that resonates with the audience on an emotional level. It’s about more than just tricks and illusions. It’s about crafting an experience that leaves the audience with a sense of awe, a renewed sense of wonder, and a moment of joy they can carry with them long after the show ends. Magic, to me, is a universal language. Whether performed on a grand stage, in a living room, or through a screen, its power to captivate, inspire, and bring joy remains the same. And as a magician, there’s no greater reward than sharing that magic with the world.

What matters most to you?
What matters most to me is the ability to inspire and empower, especially young girls, much in the same way that I was inspired by TV shows like ‘Charmed’ and ‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer’ as a young girl. These shows portrayed strong, capable women who were both ordinary and extraordinary at the same time. They taught me that I could be a heroine in my own story, that I had the power to shape my destiny, and that magic, in various forms, was within my reach. I strongly believe in the power of representation. Seeing these powerful women on screen was transformative for me, and I strive to be that same source of inspiration for young girls today. As a female magician, I want to show them that they, too, can be the main act and defy conventions and shatter glass ceilings. Magic, in its essence, is about seeing the extraordinary in the ordinary, challenging what we perceive as reality, and pushing the boundaries of what is deemed possible. I want to inspire young girls to see the magic in themselves, recognize their potential and strength, and believe in their capacity to create their own kind of magic. Empowering young girls is not just about inspiring them to become magicians. It’s about inspiring them to be confident, curious, and creative individuals who are unafraid to chase their dreams, question the status quo, and carve their paths. It’s about teaching them that they can be the protagonists of their own stories, that they are capable of incredible things, and that they, like magic, are full of limitless possibilities. So, what matters most to me? It’s a role model, an example of a woman who chased her dreams and didn’t let societal norms define her. It’s about using my platform and my magic to inspire and empower, to bring joy and wonder, and to remind everyone, especially young girls, of the magic they hold within.
