Today we’d like to introduce you to Lori Getzwiller.
Hi Lori, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
It all started when I was working at a Honor Health Surgery Center, I was working also p/t at a plastic surgeons office as well as working at the hospital, The Drs there heard I just started an aftercare business checking on their patients when they flew in to the valley for their scheduled procedure, not having a friend or family member with them , I was called. So one Dr shared my information through the OR and Post Surgical Recovery Team was created. Today we now service over 20 Drs and their patients.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Starting my with only a handful of techs and nurses, sometimes I had to do a lot of juggling. Then Covid hit and all elective surgeries were off the table, we were called only to ck on Covid patients in their home, and my husband was recovering from Kidney Cancer and a Quad bypass, I couldn’t get exposed and bring that home to him. Then we got hit with the worst phone call ever we had lost our son. My nurses I had took the reins for a bit, and I was on the road towards healing, this small mom and pop business kept us and pulled me from the worst parent’s nightmare ever,, patients were able to schedule their awaited procedure and Drs were calling as well, it was time to get moving again. I thank the heavens above for having this business today.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
We transport patients to and from their procedure or if they just need a drop in to check on them as well. We monitor them with their vitals the same as they do in PACU, after there stable , we report to Dr and abnormal occurrences if any . PSRT was created in 2010 and as of this article we’ve now serviced hundreds of patients.
What sets us apart from others is the one on one patient care with our skilled care team that continues working part time in surgery facilities keeping our their skill set at its highest, knowing most of the Drs keeping up with their after surgery protocols.
We are most proud of the care we give our patients, spending unlimited times on the phone going through what to expect afterwards and insuring their recovery will and can be a good experience. Having nurses and techs that have recovered from the same procedures done puts their mind at ease.
Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
I was divorced with 3 children and needed to provide for them, so early mornings i worked on a trash truck, hanging off the back picking up trash cans and emptying them , then I was a server in the afternoons,
The days after I left that job we opened a hair salon and after it got up and going, I was missing my patients and healthcare so I was hired at Honor Health Shea in Radiology and special procedures. Everyday I opened the Salon then I went to my hospital job from 3 p to 11:30p ,
