Life & Work with Lexi Peers

Today, we’d like to introduce you to Lexi Peers.

Lexi Peers

Hi Lexi, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Hi! My name is Lexi, and I own Lexhalle Photography!

I shoot primarily couples, weddings, and boudoirs, but I produce all kinds of portraiture for a living! I would describe my work as a direct extension of my heart and the things I find most beautiful in this life.

I put out very feminine, rich, earthy, and candid images. I value the intimacy between humans and the relationship between self and others. I’ve been doing photography for almost seven years, 4 of them professionally.

We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I was very lucky to feel I had found my place in this world when I found photography at such a young age. Knowing it was my home and how I was meant to interact with the world was never a struggle, but executing wasn’t always easy. Self-employment usually comes with some external and internal resistance.

Friends and family wondering if this is a secure career for you, imposter syndrome and self-doubt in such a saturated field, and the lack of financial consistency are just a few of the biggest challenges to mentally overcome. It’s an industry of mind over matter, and consistently pushing forward.

Most of your heaviest struggles will come from within you. It also takes a lot of practice to push aside negative thoughts or self-doubts.

I appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I specialize in creating settings for love to bloom authentically. Photographing people can be a whole lot like trying to take a photo of a sunset on an iPhone and wondering why it isn’t doing it justice. Some couples are outrageously photogenic and that is GREAT, other couples are quiet beauties.

You can feel true love in their presence but without a warm and welcoming presence YOURSELF it can be very difficult for that love to translate across the camera lens and ultimately onto a screen. Knowing how to handle people, match their energy, make them feel heard and safe, and harbor a healthy environment for them to love or express themselves authentically is an ART.

Being kind and providing guidance is key to waking your way in an industry like this and I pride myself on celebrating people where they are while also encouraging them to come out of their shells. I view life and love through a rose-tinted lens, and I like providing my clients the space to get back to the roots of their relationship. To sit with each other and take a breather from this life that never stops moving forward.

To whisper the things they love about one another and to be playful. I think somewhere between authentic and unprompted moments & epic romantic images meant to be printed on book covers is where my photography lies.

What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
The most important lesson I’ve learned along the way is to keep service at the forefront of my business. To remember WHY I do this and how blessed I am to serve people in this way.

To share art with them and photograph their most special and precious memories. Boudoir, engagements, and sneaky sunset wedding portraits are all such intimate milestones that deserve to be respected and taken seriously. Every. Single. Time. I’ve seen other vendors and creatives grow jaded in this industry, and lack sensitivity over time.

Put themselves first. Put the money first. It is important to uphold your values in business. It is everything to love and respect the clients who love and respect you. It is an honor to be considered to photograph them once in a lifetime moment.

It’s very easy to lose touch with that after your tenth, twentieth, or fiftieth wedding. But to your client, it is often their first and only wedding. I can’t stress the importance of respecting and honoring that above all else.
