Today we’d like to introduce you to Lacy Teal
Hi Lacy, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
As a Cosmetologist for almost 19 years, I spent the majority of my career behind the chair specializing in cut and color while taking on a few weddings a year. In 2019 I was presented an opportunity to join a team of bridal hair and makeup artists and the timing could not have been better as I was already contemplating a career change within the beauty industry. My first few weddings on the team were rough, and to be honest I almost quit, but after having an incredible wedding where I was really proud of my work, I started seeing the potential of this industry. After spending a year and half learning everything I possibly could about the bridal industry and focusing on improving my skills in both hair and makeup, I transitioned into bridal full time and started my own bridal hair and makeup company. That same year, I made the Phoenix Entrepreneurs Top 30 hairstylists list. Since then I have focused on growing my business, improving my skill set, and developing relationships with both clients and other industry professionals. Although weddings keep me very busy, I also offer services for special events and photo shoots, as well as teaching hair classes to other artists. The past five years have brought so much growth, including opportunities to travel to other states for weddings, but 2025 will definitely be my most exciting year yet! I will be starting off the year working at Paris Fashion Week as a hair team artist, as well as traveling to other cities to teach bridal hair classes.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It definitely has not been a smooth road. This year I have had to remind myself that every successful business has had a rough year at some point. A lot of people do not understand the time and sacrifice it takes to actually make it in such a competitive industry. After the pandemic, the wedding industry in Arizona went crazy. Between all of the brides that had to reschedule for the following year, plus all of the weddings that were already scheduled for those years, I would often work seven days a week just trying to keep up with the demand and really trying to give these brides who had been through so much a great experience. It is very easy to experience burn out in this industry as well, because our focus has to be on social media on top of everything else. There have been days where I was not completely happy with the work I did that day, and that’s very hard as I can be a perfectionist, but you really do have to have thick skin to work in bridal, and understand that as long as the bride is happy, that’s all that matters.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I describe my style of hair and makeup as soft and romantic. I specialize in natural makeup and soft glam looks. My focus is really just enhancing what’s already there. As far as hair goes, I mostly get booked for my modern glam waves and boho styles, but I absolutely love doing sleek buns and updos as well. I think what sets me apart is my versatility. Not only being able to do both hair and makeup, but being able to accomplish so many different styles and techniques.
What does success mean to you?
I love this question because everyone defines success differently and it’s important not to compare ourselves to others for this reason. I personally define success as the feeling of fulfillment. Being satisfied with what you are doing and having gratitude that you are able to do it.
