Life & Work with Kulululu

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kulululu.

Hello Kulululu, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
No one really knows where Kulululu came from. No one really knows what Kulululu is, but we know that we are it and that it too is you, and together we are all Kulululu.

Kulululu was first discovered in the Pacific Northwest in the city of Portland Oregon circa 2014. Since then, people have found Kulululu in a few different cities across the country. It seems that Kulululu is now most accessible by way of Tucson, Arizona.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Kulululu tends not to use roads.

Which can be a struggle in and of itself. Really what is the greatest challenge, is the insufficient economic structures of our society that could otherwise nurture rich and vibrant arts cultures in our communities. Independent musicians in the United States continue to be underpaid, undervalued, and taken advantage of by business owners and entrepreneurs.

It can also be challenging to make sure all of the musical notes you’re playing arrive in the right place, at the right time, with the proper frequency relationships, and expressive inflection.

Smooth is not a word anyone has ever used to describe Kulululu.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Kulululu generally does what is needing doing at any moment.

The specialization comes through music, in areas of composition, conducting, performance, education, improvisation, and experimentation. It is known that Kulululu is Kulululu, and you are also. This makes Kulululu proud and reminds us that we are not apart, but we are all a part of Kulululu.

Do you have any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
When I was a child, I once woke up to a baboon sitting on the window sill in the middle of the night.
