Life & Work with Kristina Oliver of Philadelphia

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kristina Oliver.

Hi Kristina, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
My journey into functional and metabolic medicine really started at the bedside. As a nurse practitioner, I kept seeing the same pattern — patients being told their labs were “normal” while they continued to struggle with weight gain, fatigue, hormone symptoms, insulin resistance, and chronic inflammation. I knew there had to be a better way to practice medicine that actually looked at the root cause instead of just managing symptoms.

That led me to pursue advanced training in functional medicine, hormone optimization, and medical weight loss. I became passionate about using comprehensive lab testing, personalized nutrition, targeted supplementation, and GLP-1–based metabolic therapies to truly change my patients’ health trajectories — not just help them lose weight, but reduce their risk for diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and other chronic conditions.

I founded Dynamic NP Functional Wellness, a telehealth practice serving Pennsylvania and Delaware, to create the kind of care I felt was missing in traditional healthcare — longer visits, deep dives into labs, and fully customized treatment plans. What started as a vision has grown into a thriving metabolic and hormone optimization program where we help busy women and men regain their energy, balance their hormones, lose weight in a sustainable way, and feel like themselves again.

As a mom of two and a full-time provider, I understand firsthand how hard it is to prioritize your health while juggling everything else. That’s why my mission is not just about weight loss — it’s about helping people create long-term metabolic health, confidence, and quality of life.

Today, I’m incredibly grateful to lead a practice that is changing lives daily and to be part of a movement that is shifting healthcare toward prevention, root-cause healing, and whole-person wellness.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Not at all — like most entrepreneurial journeys in healthcare, it has required constant evolution. One of the biggest challenges has been learning to continuously shift and refocus as both the medical landscape and the business side of telehealth change so quickly. When you’re building something that’s innovative and not the traditional model of care, you’re always refining your systems, your offerings, and your message to stay ahead and truly serve your patients in the best way possible.

Time and energy management has probably been the most humbling part. As a clinician, business owner, and mom, there are endless opportunities and ideas, but not all of them move the mission forward. I’ve had to become very intentional about what I say yes to, what I delegate, and what actually creates impact — both for my patients’ outcomes and for the long-term growth of the practice.

There were also the normal growing pains that come with entrepreneurship — building the right team, navigating the legal and operational side of medicine, creating systems from the ground up, and stepping into the CEO role instead of only the provider role. That shift in identity is huge.

But every challenge has reinforced why I started this in the first place. When you see patients reverse insulin resistance, balance their hormones, come off multiple medications, and truly get their lives back, it makes the pivots, the late nights, and the constant learning completely worth it.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m a board-certified nurse practitioner and the founder of Dynamic NP Functional Wellness, a telehealth practice specializing in metabolic health, medical weight loss, and hormone optimization for women and men in Pennsylvania and Delaware. My focus is identifying and treating the root cause of symptoms through comprehensive lab testing, personalized nutrition, targeted supplementation, and advanced therapies such as GLP-1–based metabolic treatment and bioidentical hormone replacement.

While many programs focus only on the number on the scale, I’m known for a much more comprehensive approach. We’re improving insulin resistance, lowering inflammation, restoring energy, balancing hormones, protecting muscle mass, and preventing long-term chronic disease. Weight loss is simply a side effect of metabolic healing. My patients often come to me after being told everything is “normal,” and for the first time they feel heard, understood, and finally start getting real answers and real results.

What I’m most proud of is the transformation in my patients’ quality of life. Yes, they’re losing 20, 40, sometimes 80+ pounds — but more importantly, they’re sleeping through the night, getting off multiple medications, regulating their blood sugar, thinking clearly again, and feeling confident in their bodies. Watching someone go from exhausted and discouraged to vibrant and empowered never gets old.

What truly sets my practice apart is the level of personalization and access. This isn’t a one-size-fits-all program or a quick prescription. Every plan is built from that individual’s labs, symptoms, and goals. My patients have ongoing guidance, education, and a clear long-term strategy so they can maintain their results for life.

I also bring a unique perspective because I’m living this alongside them — I’m a busy working mom, I understand the real-life barriers to prioritizing your health, and I’ve built a model of care that is realistic, supportive, and sustainable. My mission is to bridge the gap between traditional medicine and true wellness, and to help people not just lose weight, but avoid the chronic diseases that so many of us were told were inevitable.

We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
I don’t really believe in luck. I believe in hard work, trusting your gut, and continuing to show up even when things feel uncertain or challenging. Building a business in healthcare — especially one that’s doing things differently — requires resilience, long hours, and a willingness to keep learning and pivoting. The growth comes from consistency and from staying deeply connected to your mission.

I was fortunate to witness that mindset from a very young age through my dad, who was an entrepreneur. He set the example for what true work ethic looks like. I saw the sacrifices — taking phone calls in the evenings, working when it would have been easier to shut it off and relax, and carrying the responsibility of a business on his shoulders — but he did it to create opportunities for our family. What stood out to me most was that he made it look effortless, even when I now know it wasn’t. That had a huge impact on me.

That perspective shaped how I run my own practice. There are definitely long days and moments that require personal sacrifice, but I see them as an investment in something bigger — creating a model of care that truly changes lives and building a legacy for my own family. When challenges come up, I don’t see them as bad luck. I see them as part of the process and a sign to refine, grow, and keep moving forward.

In my experience, the “breaks” that look like luck from the outside are really the result of preparation, intuition, and a lot of behind-the-scenes HARD work.
