Life & Work with Kim Syverson of Glendale

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kim Syverson.

Hi Kim, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for sharing your story with us – to start, maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers.
About four years ago, I started a new project making jewelry. I made bracelets and earrings as gifts for birthdays and holidays. The gifters would wear the pieces, and people would compliment the jewelry! I was encouraged to sell my handmade jewelry. In 2019, I opened the Esty shop, Coastal Kim, to sell handmade jewelry and accessories to the public! I was nervous about the shop since I didn’t know if people would like the designs enough to purchase them. It took a few months, but people started noticing the unique jewelry. My daughter, Britney, is my “Color Coordinator.” She loves to help pick out the colors! The Esty shop is growing in several sales every year! A recent accomplishment is selling select Coastal Kim jewelry to Tocaloma Spa & Salon!

Can you talk to us about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It hasn’t always been a smooth road; I get creative blocks! There are bead and supply issues. It limits how many pieces I can make or not sell a particular piece. The price of the beads and supplies has increased. That changes how much I sell the piece. There are ebbs and flows of sales.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar, what can you tell them about what you do?
Since Coastal Kim is located in Arizona, we use various gemstones native to Arizona in most pieces! Also, two of our bestselling bracelets were inspired by the cities of Sedona and Bisbee. They are unique to us because of the creative interpretations that go into the designs. Coastal Kim may have roots in Arizona, but my daughter’s heart and mine love the beach and ocean. They blend very well together! We created a bohemian beach vibe along with the Arizona ties.

Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs, or other resources you think our readers should check?
I tend to gravitate to Pinterest when I get creative blocks for work. In my downtime, I like to read books by J. D. Robb, do some yoga, and have fun with my family and friends.
