Life & Work with Kim Phan

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kim Phan.

Hi Kim, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My love for all things beauty started while I was in university working part-time as a Beauty Expert in Canada at a beauty retailer similar to Ulta and Sephora. I moved to Scottsdale four years ago. Prior to living in Arizona, I managed stores and trained new managers for Canada’s top beauty retailer in which I have been awarded Beauty Boutique Manager of the Year. My passion in the industry landed me on the company’s Pro Artistry Team and I had been featured on local television and magazines in Canada as an expert in the beauty industry.

I took a small break adjusting to a new country and raising my two little boys when I first moved here to Arizona. About two years in, I began freelancing and have connected to the most incredible talent in this industry and amazing clients. Now, I am booked for weddings, fashion, lifestyle, beauty, and event makeup. I am grateful to have reignited my passion in a new place and focused on the artistry side of my skill sets.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Getting to where I am now, I would say wasn’t exactly smooth. Moving to a different country in a city where you don’t know a single person while learning to be a new mom has its challenges. But, it has revealed to me what I am capable of and pushed me to work hard for the connections I’ve built and to continually improve in my artistry.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a makeup artist and my self-described style would be timeless, radiant makeup looks that enhances one’s beauty naturally. I’ve had extensive training in skincare and product knowledge with my previous work and I believe that sets me apart. I have a love of good skincare and routines which I often share tips with clients. I believe great makeup can be better achieved when skin is optimal and healthy. I love a beautiful and glowy makeup look that highlights one’s best features.

Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
I was very studious growing up. I learned piano from a young age and actually graduated university in Elementary Education with a music specialty. My parents were more strict growing up and although I always had heightened interest in the world of beauty, I wasn’t able to dive into that area of interest until after high school. In addition to my passion for beauty, I absolutely love to travel and see new places. I have been fortunate to have seen some incredible places around the world.
