Life & Work with Kat Gellhaus

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kat Gellhaus.

Hi Kat, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’m born and raised in Arizona. I started my love for hair and makeup as a young kid. My sister was the pioneer and started in Cosmetology school when I was in middle school. I love going and being her hair model for the day I know the atmosphere was where I belong.

I remember working in her salon as a receptionist at a young age until I could go to school for my own license. I struggle with Dyslexia and was just terrified I wasn’t gonna get through Cosmetology school as I struggle with school but with love and perseverance I made it through.

I started work right away have learned a lot being in the industry for over 17 years. I keep educating and strengthening myself through education. On this journey, I have met many beautiful people that have helped me grow and feel good about what I do.

My husband and kiddos just support me so much. I give back as much as I can by doing haircuts for the homeless and have worked with the Vets and victims of Trafficking. I truly love what I do and giving back to our community. If I can make one person a day feel better then I’ve done my job. I’m not done growing and I can’t wait to keep learning new trends and techniques to give to my community.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has not been a smooth road at all. I have a learning disability. I had to work so many jobs just to keep my passion going. It’s been a real struggle. Everything I’ve been through just makes me stronger though And better at My craft.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I know for cuts and color. I’m dreamcatcher certified. I love to use plant-based products or products that are clean.

Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers?
I really like to help people and make people feel good about themself as much as I love doing hair. I enjoy what I do and I think that’s what sets me apart from others I try and find the positive to this crazy world.
