Meet Kassi Mcguire

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kassi Mcguire.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I’ve been a hairdresser for 18 years and a mom for 13 years. I also owned my own salon with my parents for almost ten years and got really burnt out. I started blogging on Instagram two years ago. I started blogging for fun and really wanted a shoe blog. It just evolved from there. As a hairdresser, I usually get asked where my clothes or shoes are from on a daily basis. One day one of my clients came in talking about this Instagram influencer and how she’s been following her and always buys everything she suggests. So I decided to check it out because I wasn’t on social media very much so I didn’t even really know what an influencer was.

After following a few people, I was like. I can totally do this. I was so burnt out on hair and was really looking for a career change but didn’t know what to do besides going back to school, so this “influencer” idea really spoke to me. I really thought it was gonna be easy and it turns out it was not. Very time consuming… like very. But the weird thing about it was I was obsessed and loved it. I was learning so much about social media and the internet. I guess that’s what I loved about it combining my addiction of shopping with learning something new and that’s how I got hooked. When I was doing hair full time, I lost the love for it and didn’t have the drive anymore. I had a full clientele and loved all my clients so much but I dreaded going to work everyday because I didn’t love my job anymore. Fast forward two years later I’m making money off of being an Instagram influencer.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Not a smooth ride at all. I really underestimated what influencers do. The struggle is very real with Instagram algorithms, getting followers and putting up quality photos. I felt like I lost myself a few times trying to keep up with everyone and wasn’t even being authentic to myself and my results weren’t great when I was doing that.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
As an Instagram influencer, I connect with my followers. I share my everyday shopping finds from clothes to home decor, to random health items. Really just why I would buy myself. I’ve worked and still work for small to big companies to help advertise their products. Taking quality pictures and sharing videos on Instagram stories. And honestly, it’s one of the funnest jobs I have ever had. Because I’ve always had a shopping addiction and what better way to feed my addiction than to make money off of it.

Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
Honestly, once I figured out the ways of social media and stopped focusing on what other bloggers were doing and focused on being myself, I found the best success. I went from no one messaging me when I felt like I wasn’t being real to making friends and connecting with everyone and people relating to me. I think people relating to me was so cool. Because you feel so small and different sometimes, it’s a really good feeling to make friends and have things in common with yourself.
