Today we’d like to introduce you to Kaeti Mertz.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I think everyone loves to take pictures when they’re little and I’m no different. My family had one of those long, thin I-zone polaroid cameras and I loved taking pictures of everything around me. But, my true passion for photography began when I was in high school.
My Graphic Design & Photography teacher, Mrs. Gaber, placed a camera in my hands and told me that she thought this would be a perfect fit for me and she was right. She didn’t know it then but she fostered a passion that would last a lifetime.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Is anything worth pursuing found along a smooth road?
Challenges though daunting can be some of the greatest learning and growing experiences. One of the biggest struggles I had to face along this journey is finding confidence in who I am as an artist and as a photographer. Along with that, not comparing myself to others. Each artist and photographer has their own individual style and that’s what makes this world beautiful.
Even more, as Teddy Roosevelt said, “Comparison is the thief of joy.” Learning that was tough but it was and is a beautiful journey.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m a photographer that focuses on families, seniors, and newborns. Though as a pastime, I love to shoot nature photography. Especially lightning in monsoon storms.
I am most proud of my photography being published in a children’s book titled I Am Different – Just Like You! It’s a children’s book that is self-published by my sister, Rebecca DalMolin and is about my sweet niece Adella who has Down Syndrome. I was privileged enough to do the photography for the book and I couldn’t be more proud of not only my work but also my sisters.
On top of that, I’m proud that my photography gets to help spread such a loving and inspirational message to the world. What sets me apart from others is my love for a perfectly candid photos. At every photoshoot, I do my best to capture the pure, real smiles of my clients because I think those are the most meaningful moments worth remembering.
