Life & Work with John Smith of PEORIA

Today we’d like to introduce you to John Smith.

Hi John, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I grew up here in the valley. I come from a small family that had little means. I worked my way through college at ASU so that I could train professional athletes and then through MCC and GCU to become a Registered Nurse. Along the way I started learning about business and real estate investing. We eventually got to the point a couple of years ago at which I could quit my full-time nursing job and focus mainly on our investments and family. We now have rental properties in several states and operate a real estate business here in Arizona. We also are involved with other ventures such as vehicle rentals, patented textile products, and book publishing.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Absolutely not. There have been countless struggles along the way; too many to count and they still happen all the time. As frustrating as they are, you have to recognize them as an opportunity to grow and learn in some way. How you respond to those struggles is what matters most. Those that succeed at their goals are the individuals that have enough grit to push through all of those failures and hard times.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
We now operate several businesses, of which real estate investing is our primary. We do remodeling and flipping here in Arizona and have long term holdings in other states. We also operate a vehicle rental site, have published several books, created a custom patented textile product, and have operated a small car rental business.
My professional career outside of our entrepreneurial activities includes being a Registered Nurse with experience in biotechnology, medical devices, critical care, and education.

What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
I have been and continue to be bullish about real estate. Phoenix is a great market for long term growth and investment. The valley continues to grow as people realize what a great place it is to live. Plus the influx of businesses starting or moving here really makes a positive impact.
From a medical perspective, I think we are going to see some radical changes in the healthcare market in the next 5-10 years. One major driver is the influence of artificial intelligence. The things that are in development and already being rolled out are pretty amazing. That industry is in for a significant disruption.
