Today we’d like to introduce you to Jeremy Schachter
Hi Jeremy, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I am originally from New York During high school I wanted to become an architect and The University of Arizona was one of the top rated schools at the time. I decided to switch my major to Business and graduated in three years with a degree in Marketing.
My first job out of College was a Buyer of a Department Store called Lord & Taylor (which since closed during COVID). I l moved back to New York City and stayed there for a few yrs. Missing the sunny skies of Arizona I decided to move back to Tucson, AZ and become a Manager at a Bank. I got promoted to Branch Manager and moved relocated to Phoenix, AZ.
I spent several years in banking and then moved into processing of HELOCs (2nd mortgages). I eventually moved to processing first mortgages and then started to originate loans solely. I started my own mortgage brokerage and then eventually moved to a bank and have been with Fairway Independent Mortgage for 7 yrs.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Originating mortgages for well over 23 yrs definitely had its ups and downs. The first downturn was the housing crash in 2008. Basically all my business stopped all at once. Lenders who I sent new loans to were closing by the minute. It was definitely a scary time because we were in the unknown.
Fast forward to 2023, interest rates started to spike and stay up. We are well into almost two yrs of elevated rates and a “stuck” housing market. The last two years have definitely been challenging.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a Branch Manager/Mortgage Advisor for Fairway Independent Mortgage. I originate first mortgages (purchases and refinances). I feel my experience as a Processor (reviewing documents, income, debts) helped me be a successful Loan Officer.
I really enjoy working with first time home buyers. I love to walk them through the process, guide them and of course be there every step of the way.
I am very proud of my past client reviews. I have over 525 + 5 star reviews on google and one of the best YELP lenders in the Phoenix metro area. I also write articles on the mortgage industry for national news outlets like CBS Money Watch, Fortune, Bloomberg, US News and World Reports as well as others. I also on local TV from time to time talking about the mortgage industry.
I have been nominated 5 yrs in a row as top 1% originators in the US by Scotsman Guide and also Mortgage
I also get involved with our community at large and was chosen as one the 40 under 40 recipients for the Phoenix Business Journal.
Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
My parents were definitely my inspiration for hard work and determination. Both of them were retired school teachers in New York. They travelled every day (1.5 hrs each way) into NYC for well over 25 yrs.
My Father taught summer school to earn extra money to take our family on vacations.
They taught me to work hard, be honest, ethical and a man of your word. They instilled my values from an early age that helped me be successful today.
They were married for over 50 yrs and both passed away two months apart in 2023. And I miss them terribly.
