Life & Work with Jenny Wantland

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jenny Wantland.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I started my business, Luna Bloom, a little over three years ago and it’s been the most incredible ongoing journey. I was always a very artsy kid, growing up I was always drawing, painting, and playing with oil pastels and charcoal. Anything I could get my hands on, and my parents always encouraged it. I also grew up with an extreme love for fashion, I knew I wanted to be either a fashion designer or an artist of some type. I kept up with art as a hobby here and there as I got older while going to school and eventually getting a more conventional job. During this time, I also married my husband Nick, and later had three amazing daughters.

I eventually left the more ‘normal’ everyday work world and decided to start a little clothing shop, determined to be able to work from home. I really loved that journey and it taught me a lot, but I knew it still wasn’t ‘it’. It wasn’t until one day I was on the phone with my mom and we were talking about how it would be so amazing if I could somehow create space for my love of creating and making art again. After that phone call, I remember looking over at one of my hats and it all just clicked together, what if I blended my love of art and fashion and created something new?

That’s basically where it all began and it’s just grown and been an amazing ongoing journey ever since.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
To be honest, I would say the majority has been very smooth. That’s not to say that there haven’t been small struggles here and there, sometimes those small things can add up and can be a little overwhelming at times, but things always seem to have a way of working themselves out in the best way.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I grew my art and following on Instagram (@thelunabloomlife) where I create and share my custom hand-painted hats.

Most of my work is influenced by desert living, I was born and raised here in Tucson and have a profound love for the magic of our deserts, critters, and more. I love being able to blend my desert influence with my artistry in this unique way and create things that are new and one-of-a-kind.

What do you think about luck?
I wouldn’t say luck had a huge part in what I do, more I think it is just what I’m meant to do and it all came together to be. I work very hard and am a very determined person, and I think that paired with my absolute, genuine love for what I do really helped create this word of mine.
