Today we’d like to introduce you to Jacquelyn Johnson.
Hi Jacquelyn, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I started Organized By JJ in 2023 after helping a friend organize her closet and realizing, “If only I could get paid to do this!” The idea clicked immediately. I had spent years searching for my purpose across different industries, not realizing that organizing, creating systems, and helping people were the common threads all along. I moved quickly from idea to action, forming my LLC in April 2023 and working with my first client that June. While continuing to work other jobs during the week, I built Organized By JJ during evenings, weekends, and every day off I had, while also taking business classes through the Phoenix Public Library and Hustle PHX to build a strong foundation. Today, Organized By JJ has grown from a home organizing service into a brand focused on creating organized, functional, and enjoyable spaces while building community through events, education, and helping people make meaningful changes in their homes and lives.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It definitely hasn’t been a completely smooth road, and I’d be weary of anyone who says starting a business is all smooth sailing, but the challenges have been some of the most valuable parts of building Organized By JJ. One of the biggest lessons has been realizing that owning a business means doing much more than the part you love. I had to learn the financial, marketing, administrative, and operational sides of running a company while continuing to work other jobs. I’ve also had to learn when to ask for help and how to find the right people and resources to support areas outside my expertise. There have been slower seasons and plenty of moments where I’ve had to rethink, adapt, and try something different. I’ve learned to see those challenges as opportunities to grow rather than as a failure. Every obstacle has helped me become a better business owner and, ultimately, a better organizer for my clients.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am the founder of Organized By JJ, a professional organizing business focused on helping people create organized, functional, and enjoyable spaces. I specialize in hands-on home organizing, decluttering, and creating systems that actually work for the way my clients live, particularly women navigating life transitions such as moving, downsizing, or welcoming a new season of life. What sets me apart is that I see organizing as more than putting things in their place. I look at the physical space, the habits behind it, and the emotional weight that can come with our belongings. I am most proud of the trust my clients place in me and the tangible impact I get to see when someone can finally breathe easier, find the things they love, or enjoy their home again. I am also proud of how Organized By JJ has grown into more than a service business. I am building a brand rooted in community, education, and connection, including events like clothing swaps that turn decluttering into an opportunity to give back.
Who else deserves credit in your story?
I am the sole owner and organizer behind Organized By JJ, so I wear every hat in the business, from working directly with clients in their homes to marketing, finances, operations, partnerships, and everything in between. While I am a one-person business, I have never believed I have to build it alone. I have had the opportunity to collaborate with other professional organizers through NAPO-AZ, as well as partner with local businesses and community organizations on events and projects. I specialize in helping clients declutter and create functional systems that work for their everyday lives, but what I am most proud of is building a business that has grown beyond a service into a community-focused brand. Being a solo business owner has taught me to be resourceful, know when to ask for help, and recognize the value of collaboration. I think that combination of independence and community is one of the things that sets Organized By JJ apart.
