Life & Work with Jacey Grimstad of Salon Ve

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jacey Grimstad

Hi Jacey, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Growing up on the Oregon coast, I always knew I had a passion for hairstyling. From the time I was little, I loved doing my Barbie’s hair and experimenting with my friends’ hair. Although I initially attended the University of Oregon for two years, I quickly realized that my true calling was in the beauty industry. To become the best stylist I could be, I knew I needed to learn from the best.

At 20 years old, I made the bold decision to move to Southern California on my own, with nothing but a dream and a desire to make my mark in the world of hairstyling. I enrolled in Paul Mitchell The School Costa Mesa, where I spent a year honing my skills. After graduating and earning my license, I landed a position at one of the most well-known salons in Huntington Beach, California. The next decade of my career was spent there, learning from some of the most talented stylists on the West Coast.

In 2019, I had the incredible opportunity to take my career overseas to Australia, where I spent eight weeks expanding my knowledge of the hair industry. From learning new ways to greet clients to mastering techniques like cutting hair in the signature style of Victoria’s Secret models, the experience was transformative. It humbled me and reminded me that, no matter how much you know, there’s always more to learn in this industry.

In 2022, I made the move to Scottsdale, AZ, ready to start a new chapter of my life. I’m looking forward to putting down roots in a place that reminds me of my Oregon beginnings, while also preparing to start a family of my own. This journey has been incredible, and I can’t wait to see where it takes me next.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The last decade of my career has been exciting and lots of twists and turns. Smooth with some big waves is how I like to see it. Struggles come and go but without them if doesn’t make the journey worth while!

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I specialize in creating stunning blonde transformations, extensions, and precision haircuts for both men and women. A weekly blowout is one of my most favorite appointments!

Early in my career, I developed a strong foundation in braiding, which led to one of my proudest moments: braiding cornrows for a UFC fighter ahead of her televised fight, where she was featured as the main card. My passion for hairstyling is rooted in delivering personalized looks for each client!

Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
I think being a people person, understanding and having empathy for anyone that walks in the door.
I have noticed in this career people trust you with a lot of their personal details and it’s our responsibility to be gentle with those emotions!
