Today we’d like to introduce you to Irvin Womack.
Hi Irvin, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Rainy Days started off as an anonymous brand that I was testing in the Scottsdale area and then decided to venture out into California. It was really hard to get it off the ground but I knew I had unlimited inspiration from other brands such as Rhude, Off White, and Fear of God that motivated me to break through barriers to get the brand out in the world. Starting out, there wasn’t really any direction as to a business model I wanted to follow, so for the first year it was a lot of experimenting and straight hustle to see what would work/stick and what needed to be changed. Passing out thousands of cards and talking to random individuals daily, hyping up the brand, is when I started to get into a rhythm.
Steadily building the Instagram page and focusing on influencer modeling/promoting really made a difference when it came to customer interactions. My good friend, Ashley Nevel, pointed me in the right direction with some NBA connections she had which led to Jamal Murray, Marquese Chriss, and many more wearing some items that became best sellers. From there, the momentum continued when Alex Cooper from the Call Her Daddy podcast publicly wore some Rainy and continued to increase the brand’s awareness and popularity. As Rainy Days is approaching its two years anniversary, I have created my own unique design process that continues to evolve as the brand has been getting more recognition and is really on the rise to become known worldwide. Motivated to become a household name across the globe, this is only the beginning.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Where do I begin? The first challenge was finding customers since the brand started off anonymously, it was difficult to promote and build any kind of customer relationship. Finding my own creative design system that was different from other streetwear brands was another obstacle since it can be so easy to just slip into complacent habits. Determining what should be released/worked on further was also difficult at first because there was not a lot of clear direction like there is now. With trends constantly evolving, you have to be one step ahead and stick to your own roots and gut feelings so you can build your own unique brand identity.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Rainy Days is known for luxury streetwear with popular hoodies, joggers, crews, vintage t-shirts, and women’s wear which is tight-fitting bikers, bralette/thong sets, and jumpsuits. Now I am getting into much more handmade cut-and-sew items that are crafted from scratch in Los Angeles. I’m most proud of just seeing so many people wearing my ideas and recognizing the name/logo. Creativity and being able to adjust to the new trends with a fast-paced work ethic is what sets me apart from others by also having the ability to build connections with customers and celebrities.
Have you learned any interesting or important lessons due to the Covid-19 Crisis?
Definitely do not put all your eggs in one basket! With my Dewayne’s slides being released at the beginning of the pandemic, it turned into a pretty big loss but also learning experience that helped mold Rainy Days into what it is today by never letting obstacles like this negatively influence the outlook on the journey.
