Today we’d like to introduce you to Honey Renee Gunn.
Hi Honey Renee, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Discover how Honey Renee, a multi-talented artist from Columbus, Georgia, found her true calling teaching social and emotional skills to young boys, transforming her diverse experiences into a powerful educational mission.
Honey Renee’s story begins in Phenix City, Alabama, and blossoms in Columbus, Georgia. Despite not having the classic tale of teaching dolls, Honey always knew she was an educator at heart. Her natural gift for giving advice made her the go-to person for friends and family. Yet, societal perceptions of teaching led her to initially shy away from the classroom.
Instead, Honey channeled her passion into founding a nonprofit for young girls, using journalism and writing as tools for coping with mental illness. Her journey through corporate America and higher education only reinforced her calling: to work with young people, pouring into their innocent minds and souls.
Returning to the classroom, Honey found her true place. “If I could work with anyone, it would be children and young people,” she shares. Being around them allows her to set aside personal struggles and focus on nurturing their growth. Honey’s classroom is a sanctuary where she combines her love for songwriting, music, and teaching to inspire her students.
Her work emphasizes social-emotional learning, guiding young people towards emotional intelligence and self-acceptance. Through music and journaling, Honey encourages them to explore their feelings and express themselves creatively.
Honey Renee is not only an educator but also an independent artist, author, singer, and songwriter. She recently released a new single, “Daydreaming,” dedicated to music lovers who appreciate the artistry and emotional depth of music. Her passion for music flows seamlessly into her teaching, enriching the lives of her students.
Currently, Honey is working on a new book, “Self-Care for Teachers,” which promises to be a valuable resource for educators seeking balance and well-being. Through her writing services company, Expression Life, she also offers ghostwriting services, helping others share their stories with the world.
Honey Renee’s impact extends beyond academics. Her classroom, affectionately known as the “Self-Love Camp,” is a haven for self-discovery and growth. She believes that fostering self-love is the foundation for learning and personal development.
Her multi-faceted approach integrates her talents as a singer-songwriter and author, creating a unique and enriching learning environment. Honey’s journey from self-love coach to classroom educator is a testament to the power of following one’s passion and the profound impact of teaching young minds.
Honey Renee’s journey is a powerful reminder that true fulfillment comes from embracing one’s gifts and using them to uplift others. Her story inspires educators and creatives alike to find their own path and make a difference in the lives of others.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Growing up as a young girl and teenager, I often struggled with low self-esteem. Like many, I faced the pressures of fitting in and measuring up to societal standards, which often left me feeling inadequate and unsure of myself. These feelings were compounded by the internal battles I fought, where my harshest critic was often my own mind.
Writing my first memoir, “No One Has Wronged Me More Than Me,” was a transformative experience. It was through this process that I confronted the negative self-talk and limiting beliefs that had held me back for so long. Putting my thoughts and experiences on paper allowed me to reflect deeply on the ways I had wronged myself by not recognizing my worth and potential.
This memoir was more than just a collection of stories; it was a journey towards self-awareness and healing. By acknowledging my struggles and taking responsibility for my own narrative, I was able to break free from the chains of low self-esteem. It was liberating to realize that while I had been my own worst critic, I could also be my own greatest advocate.
Writing the book set me free from those stuck places, allowing me to embrace my imperfections and celebrate my journey. It taught me that true empowerment comes from within, and that I have the strength to rewrite my story at any moment. This realization not only changed how I viewed myself but also how I approached my art and my teaching, inspiring me to help others find their own paths to self-acceptance and growth.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m thrilled to share a bit about my work and passions. I wear many hats, but at the heart of it all, I’m an independent artist, author, singer, songwriter, and educator. My work is a tapestry of creativity and education, and I specialize in blending these elements to inspire and uplift others.
As a musician, I’m known for creating soulful and authentic music that resonates with my audience. My songs often explore themes of self-discovery, resilience, and empowerment, drawing from my personal experiences. As an author, my memoir “No One Has Wronged Me More Than Me” has been a defining project, helping others see the power of self-reflection and growth.
In the realm of education, I take great pride in my role as a teacher. I’ve embraced teaching as a way to connect with others and share knowledge. My book “Self-Care for Teachers” is a testament to my commitment to supporting educators in nurturing their well-being while making a difference in their students’ lives.
What sets me apart is my ability to integrate these diverse roles into a cohesive and impactful career. I believe my authenticity and willingness to share my vulnerabilities have allowed me to connect deeply with my audience, whether through music, writing, or teaching.
I’m most proud of the positive impact my work has had on others. Knowing that my art and words have inspired someone to embrace their own journey or find comfort in their struggles is incredibly fulfilling. My dedication to creating meaningful and honest work is what truly distinguishes me, and it’s a passion that fuels everything I do.
What makes you happy?
What truly makes me happy is the ability to express myself creatively and connect with others through my art and teaching. There’s a deep sense of joy that comes from crafting a song or writing a piece that resonates with people, knowing that it might bring them comfort or inspiration. Music and writing are not just my passions; they’re my way of communicating and sharing my journey with the world.
Teaching also brings me immense happiness. The opportunity to guide and support others, especially fellow educators, in their personal and professional growth is incredibly rewarding. Seeing the positive impact that self-care practices can have on teachers’ lives, and knowing I’ve played a part in that transformation, fills me with a sense of purpose.
Additionally, personal growth and self-reflection are sources of happiness for me. The journey of overcoming self-doubt and embracing my true self has been empowering, and each step forward brings a sense of fulfillment and peace.
Ultimately, what makes me happiest is the ability to make a difference, whether through a song, a book, or a classroom. It’s the connections I make and the lives I touch that bring me the greatest joy and drive me to continue pursuing my passions.
