Today we’d like to introduce you to Erin McCarthy.
Hi Erin, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
At the start of Covid, I found myself needing to get a little “crafty” with my time, finances, sanity (lol), so after talking with my husband and looking at drawers full of fabric and ribbon (I thought my daughters would love wearing bows) I decided to start a bow shop. It started as just a conversation… I didn’t even know how to sew. I love bows and I would make silly little ones for our girls, but all of a sudden, I was borrowing a sewing machine from my best friend’s mom and asking her to teach me how to sew.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Lol not the smoothest. First off, I didn’t even know how to sew. But I knew what I wanted to make and knew I needed to learn. I’m the worst at promoting or talking about myself. I’m technically not the best-thankfully Etsy was a pretty easy process to set up. Self-doubt consumes me! I signed up my LLC and just sat on it for a month bc I thought I wouldn’t be good at it.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I love bows! I loved bows as a little girl and then was so excited about the idea of bows when I found out we were having a girl (each time). I make homemade bows. 🙂
I think there are amazing companies out there that make bows. Amazing! I just hope to be in that lineup one day. I hope that I can make bows that people love. Bows that will be worn for Christmas pictures, first day of school pictures or newborn pictures. Maybe they’re sentimental or maybe they’re just bows to wear on a Tuesday but I love making them and take pride in each one.
What matters most to you? Why?
In my business-making a quality product that people enjoy. It matters bc it’s my name attached to the product. I take pride in my work and want to make a bow that is something I would want my own kids to wear, something I would spend my own money on.
