Life and Work with Derek Williams of Bounce It AZ

Today we’d like to introduce you to Derek Williams.

Hi Derek, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
For the last couple years I really wanted to start a small business. I have young children and we are known as the fun house. In the past I have purchased a waterslide bounce house, pop-up pools, trampolines, backyard roller skate rinks and even made skateboarding ramps all in our backyard. Our waterslide bounce house wasn’t of commercial grade and the Phoenix heat ate the material away. We considered a commercial grade inflatable for our home especially since we used it for each party we ever hosted at our home. This is where I started thinking about starting a party rental business, mostly leaning towards inflatables. During COVID parties ceased to exist and get-togethers were now held virtually, this really made us rethink our business decision. Once everything opened back up and people were starting to have celebrations, we knew this was the perfect time to help people start reconnecting after such a difficult time. After being in constant contact with an inflatables vendor, I decided to make the purchase! I came home and slowly told my wife, “Surprise! We own a bounce house business!”

From there it was all sails forward! That is how Bounce It AZ was born! Within day one we went onto creating social media platforms, a website, a booking platform, and digital advertising. At this point today we are extremely shocked and grateful with how well this endeavor took off in a such a short amount of time. We are also grateful with how much support we have received by recommendations made from friends, family, and newly made friends.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
There are struggles when opening a business whether it is big or small. We had a rough start at first trying to get our name out there especially being so new but through lots of trial and error we got the business rolling smoothly. A lot of the social media business platforms we use really helped us with the transitions through the day to day! Now we have new leads bringing customers to us from around the valley!

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Bounce It AZ is a quick, responsive, and understanding small business that is sharing its love of inflatables with the valley! Along with being the owner and founder of Bounce It AZ, I am a full-time electrical foreman for a commercial and industrial sites and a very active fun dad.

We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
There is always a lot of risk when starting a new business, from the initial investment, applying for business license, hiring of employees, and just your basic financial stability. We’ve been lucky to be able to stay busy after the whole pandemic through a lot of word of mouth from family, friends, and newly made friends
