Today we’d like to introduce you to DeFi. Productions.
Hello DeFi. Productions, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
We are DeFi. Productions LLC. We are a small black-owned business in the city of Maricopa, Arizona. Its owners consist of Chase “Zoom” Bell and Jade Catron. Zoom has been in the professional entertainment industry in production, performance, coaching, and creative directing, for over 20+ years. Born in Los Angeles, California, after being run over by a van at 3 he was air evacuated and pronounced dead. Miraculously he was resuscitated and was dancing his way into the hospital with no injuries. Since that day, he has acquired a well-versed resume. Ranging from the Phoenix Suns, the Phoenix Mercury, the Harlem Globetrotters, Season 7 winners Elektroleytes and many more.
With all his experiences, he now wants to provide opportunities for other creative’s art and voices to be heard. Being a black man in the art world, he understands fully what it’s like not to have the chances we would like to show who we are. Most creatives are the most defiant ones to push the boundaries and show there is more to being stuck in a box. Our second founder is Jade Catron. Jade grew up in Tucson and has since chased her dreams in Phoenix. As a true Arizona native, she strives to give back to her community through activism and the Arts. With roots in Arizona and Jamaica, Jade is free-spirited and defiant by nature. By rocking to the rhythm of her drum, she has accumulated 10+ years of creative experience, including dance performance and choreography, spoken word, education, event production, and event operations.
Undoubtedly, Jade fully stands by DeFi. ‘s motto: “Creativity is an act of Defiance.” Together, we will build a space for local black creatives to shine. We aren’t afraid to push the boundaries on creativity and believe in creating family, not clients. All the opportunities we’ve been given give birth to a business that is determined to empower our artists and generate revenue for generations; for all involved.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a smooth road?
As a new business, you always face struggles. But without those struggles and hurdles, our business wouldn’t properly understand the needs and wants of our clients. Personally, we both have experienced some intense struggling, and coming together, we are great business partners knowing the individual challenges each of us has faced. A big struggle, as many may know, is start-up funding. But we are navigating through what we need as a business to effectively reach our goal of being the “go-to” spot for all things creative in Arizona.

DeFi. is a remedy for people’s lack of creative spaces to generate creative ideas and revenue streams continually. Through this Pandemic, the Arts have, and still are, taking a big hit. Creating and facilitating a space where both following your passion and generating an income through your chosen craft is at the forefront of DeFi. ‘s mission. We are proud to say, DeFi. It is a black-owned company; we focus on artists of color but welcome all people with a creative voice ready to be unleashed.
We are known for “Going against the grain.” We are most proud of having the opportunity to highlight the hidden gems. We are also proud to be a part of the Black Commission of Arizona. What sets us apart from others is our act of defiance, “you,” our clients, and our experience of still being active creatives in the industry. We understand the minds of our clients and how to bring their ideas to life best—and have warm contacts to utilize for business purposes.
What do you think about luck?
Luck is not what we run by because luck runs out eventually. We believe in the power of prayer and blessings, and they have had a great effect on our business this far.
