Life & Work with David Salcido Jr.

Today we’d like to introduce you to David Salcido Jr.

Hi David, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
Culture Roots Apparel started after discovering our love for reggae music in 2012. It started with the discovery of two bands at that time. Seedless out of Orange County, California, and Katastro out of Tempe, AZ. These two bands opened our eyes to a whole scene of music that we fell in love with. The vibes, the people, and the bands all inspired us to create a brand representing positivity, love, and pride. Culture Roots, to us, means being proud of who you are and where you come from.

With the help of my best friend and brother, Eric, we officially launched the brand in 2014. Since then, we have grown the brand organically through social media and various events ranging from local shows to music festivals with 10,000+ attendees per day. We’ve been fortunate to have some of our favorite artists in the reggae scene wear our brand while on tour, which has also helped grow the brand.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
One of the biggest struggles along the way has been growing the brand. We want to do it in a way that connects with people, which relies on face-to-face interaction.

When the COVID-19 pandemic hit, every festival shut down and we had no way to meet new people and have that social interaction that we love. For almost 2 years, we had to rely strictly on social media to try and grow the brand. That stopped the momentum we had pre-pandemic.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’ve worked in events for the last 15 years, specializing as an audio engineer for the last 10 years. I take pride in being able to be creative and create a quality sound experience for attendees.

Alright so before we go can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
Following us on social media @cultureroots. Liking and commenting on our posts. Giving us feedback on our designs and products. And purchasing our products at culturerootsapparel.com.

We are always open to collaborations with other brands or artists. We own the equipment and software to do everything from design to printing in-house. We also print custom apparel for artists, brands, and businesses so feel free to reach out to us with any printing needs.
