Today we’d like to introduce you to David Quintero.
Hi David, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, you could tell our readers some of your backstory.
I’ve always had to work with a camera for filming purposes of the shows I would do as hiphop artist Dienamik and with my band Mopar Bentley. But in 2016, I decided to spend $3000 on a camera and some gear and plunge into working for myself as a photographer/videographer. Starting slowly and extremely cheap, I put out a Craigslist ad for a photo/video for only $25. It was from this ad that I met my mentor and now partner Cayupe from Cayupe Eclipsi Photography, and she agreed to give me a chance as an assistant and backup videographer while she trained and taught me photography. I worked with various other videographers and photographers throughout the years, who taught me much about film, camera, editing, and lighting. I absorbed everything I could and slowly started making a little money, and I would invest in more camera equipment and software. I improved with practice while working on photos and videos so much that my mentor Cayupe brought me on board as her principal videographer and assistant for the gigs. In my 6th year, we are returning to our previous amount of business after a few slow years of covid. I currently film with cameras, stabilizers, proper home editing computers and software, a website, an LLC for dienamikVISUALS, and more.
Alright, let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what challenges have you had to overcome?
Once I understood the concept of camera settings, I knew how and what settings I needed to use for any given atmosphere I was in. But there is so much more! The proper framing of the subject, the fundamentals of filming, the appropriate color and lighting adjustments, and the unpredictability of the environment that I cannot control are still something I learn each time I’m working. Covid was rough because there was no gathering of large parties, so we were shut down for a year and a half with only very little work afterward.
Let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I mainly do photography & videography for quinceaneras and weddings, as well as music videos for artists and live music photography. What I love the most is creating the story for the client. So many things happen behind the scenes at any given time during these events, but the only thing that matters is what I filmed and the story I tell with the finished product. I’m most proud of how the clients feel about their videos. If I made them cry, I know I did a good job. Also, live music photography has received great responses from people and artists.
Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers?
My drive has pushed me to be where I am today and continues to push me to be in a great position and be respected for my work.
