Today we’d like to introduce you to Darla Rivas.

Hi Darla, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
With both of my parents working as hairstylists and now owning their own salon and barbershop, I was raised in the salon environment and naturally drawn to the energy, creativity, and connection it brings. From a young age, I knew this industry was where I belonged.

While in high school, I was accepted into the West-MEC cosmetology program, where I began building the technical foundation for my career. During my senior year, a classmate mentioned that her hairstylist had been in a serious car accident and was looking for someone to assist her during her recovery. I quickly connected with her on Instagram, and within minutes, she reached out to me about a potential opportunity. That same day, we had a FaceTime interview, immediately clicked, and I was offered the position.

From day one, working alongside Skye felt incredibly natural. We formed a strong bond early on, and it quickly became clear that this opportunity was meant to be. Her mentorship and the knowledge she’s shared with me have been invaluable in shaping me into the stylist I am today. I’m incredibly grateful not only for the skills I’ve gained but also for the meaningful relationship we’ve built through this journey.

I truly believe that everything happens for a reason — and I’m so thankful for the path that brought me here.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Nothing in life is ever perfect — there will always be challenges, but it’s how you choose to face them that defines your growth. For me, one of the biggest challenges was re-learning and rebuilding a clientele from the ground up. It was something I was fully prepared to take on, fueled by my determination to succeed in the career I love.

Skye played a huge role in that journey. She not only believed in me but also guided me in becoming the best version of myself — both as a stylist and as a professional. From teaching me advanced techniques I didn’t learn in school, to helping me understand how to attract and build the clientele I truly wanted, she gave me the tools and confidence to grow.

She invested so much time and heart into mentoring me — from perfecting highlight placement to mastering hair extensions. Even while navigating her own challenges after a serious car accident, Skye never stopped pouring into her career and into me. I’m endlessly grateful for her support, her strength, and everything she’s taught me. Her dedication and passion have truly shaped the stylist I am today.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I specialize in creating dreamy, lived-in color — especially for blondes — to give my clients the effortless, glowing look they’ve always envisioned. In addition to color, I also offer seamless hair extension services, including K-tips, tape-ins, and wefts.

I believe there’s no one-size-fits-all approach when it comes to extensions, which is why I provide multiple methods tailored to each client’s unique hair type and lifestyle. Customization is key — and that’s what sets my work apart. My goal is to help every client feel confident, beautiful, and completely at home in their hair.

I’m committed to continually growing my business by learning new techniques, staying current with trends, and adapting to what clients are truly looking for. In this industry, you’re always a student — and that’s something I genuinely embrace.

Looking ahead, my goal is to continue evolving into the best stylist I can be. I’m also focused on growing my presence on social media as a way to showcase my work, connect with new clients, and share the artistry and passion that go into every service I provide.
