Life & Work with Daria Usachova

Today we’d like to introduce you to Daria Usachova.

Hi Daria, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
Once I saw this girl – Rachel, work at the wedding as a photographer, capturing these amazing intimate moments for people to remember in the years to come I knew – I had to become a wedding photographer. I had Sonya at home, I brought that with me to the next wedding Rachel was photographing and I photographed it with her.

There was no way back after that. I fell in love with serving couples by capturing their happiest memories. I photographed friends, families, and couples. I photographed every day, during the sunrise, then edited and went to work – I worked at the Spa as a massage therapist at the moment. Not long after – I left to pursue my photography dream and never looked back.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I don’t think there ever can be a smooth road with anything, even your favorite job. My biggest struggle personally was a comparison to other artists.

I have always felt, and I sometimes still feel like I am not good enough, but my couples never fail to remind me about how much they love their wedding and engagement images. The relationships I get to build along the way are one of the best parts of my job.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a wedding photographer based in NYC and Philadelphia areas. I also photograph love stories. Originally, I am from Ukraine and I think my background and my whole life experience help my art to stand out and be recognizable among other local photographers, because when any photographer takes any photo – partially it’s autobiographical.

I am proud of being able to support myself and my mom, who is still in Ukraine by doing what I love. It’s a luxury and I never want to take it for granted.

Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out.
Don’t be afraid to be yourself. Get inspired by art from different areas, not your niche. Practice a lot.
