Life & Work with Courtney Yancy of Phoenix / Scottsdale

Today we’d like to introduce you to Courtney Yancy.

Courtney, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I’m originally from the New York/New Jersey area, and I was raised with a strong work ethic and the belief that you work hard for what you want. I’m also a wife and a proud mother of two beautiful girls. Being able to be present for my family is incredibly important to me, and I want to lead by example for my daughters—raising them to be confident women who know their worth, believe in themselves, and aren’t afraid to chase their dreams.

Before entering the skincare industry, I spent 10 years working in the juvenile court system. That experience taught me resilience, patience the importance of making a difference in people’s lives. Over time, I realized I wanted a career that was more aligned with my passions, offered greater flexibility for my family, and allowed me to have more control over my time.
Many may find it nerve-racking, but at age 31 I decided on a career change. I knew I wanted something different, but still rooted in helping people—that’s what led me to skincare.

What began as a career change turned into a 15-year passion. I also spent seven years working in a medspa, which deepened my knowledge and hands-on experience in advanced skincare and client care. For me, skincare has never just been about treatments—it’s about creating an experience where people feel comfortable, cared for, and like family. I truly treat my clients as such.

Most recently, I have been working toward becoming oncology certified, which has been incredibly meaningful. It has deepened my commitment to providing safe, compassionate care for individuals going through cancer treatment and recovery. My focus moving forward is to continue growing in this area and supporting oncology clients with gentle, nurturing skincare.

Over the years, I’ve also built my own organic body scrub line and grow my skincare business in Old Town Scottsdale. I’ve also created a small segment on my Instagram page called “What makes you GLOW with Courtney”. This is where anyone that comes into my suite or anyone I meet in life can tell me what makes them GLOW in life. The power of positivity can change someone’s outlook. I’m proud of the journey because while my career changed, my purpose never did—I’ve always wanted to help people. I simply found a different way to do it.

Today, I get to combine my passion for skincare, entrepreneurship, and values to help people feel confident, cared for, and glowing from the inside out.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I would say my most memorable obstacle was during COVID, like many in the service industry, I also experienced the uncertainty of having to temporarily close for a few weeks. I do not receive PTO, so those moments required a great deal of patience and faith.
Slower seasons are always a struggle in this industry so it’s always very important to keep yourself educated and consistent. .

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
What I’m most proud of is the relationship I’ve built with my clients and the trust they place in me. I don’t call myself an esthetician—I call myself a Skincare Therapist because I believe I treat more than just the skin. When someone comes into my suite, they’re set apart from the outside world. I treat them like family, create a space where they feel seen and cared for, and help transform their skin and their confidence at the same time.

I’m a Dermaplane specialist and former DermaplanePro educator with more than seven years of teaching experience, and I’ve been in the skincare industry for over 15 years. But what truly sets me apart is the personal connection I create with each client.

My journey has been anything but traditional—I’ve explored modeling, acting, I trained as a boxer, earned my degree, worked in the juvenile court system for 10 years, and ultimately became an entrepreneur. Every chapter taught me the courage to evolve. I’m most proud of building a career I love while showing my two daughters that you can take chances, reinvent yourself, and create a life that is truly your own.

What was your favorite childhood memory?
My parents provided such a beautiful childhood for my brother and I, so it’s really hard to pinpoint just one favorite memory. They loved traveling with us and creating special experiences, but if I had to choose one, it would have to be our annual Christmas Eve parties.

We lived on a court in New Jersey, and every year, family from New York, along with friends from New York and New Jersey, would come together for the celebration. There was catered food, music, laughter, and so much love. And when it was time for Santa to arrive, it was actually my father dressed in a Santa suit! None of the kids had any idea, which made it even more magical.

Sometimes it would even snow, making the whole evening feel like something out of a movie. Every year was special, and looking back, I realize how incredible it was to have so many people we loved come together and create those memories. It’s a tradition and a feeling I’ll always cherish.
