Today we’d like to introduce you to Courtney Allen.
Hi Courtney, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
My name is Courtney, and I founded CA Yoga Barre with the simple intention of creating a space full of kindness, safety, open-mindedness, and community. Having a comfortable studio setting in life is a gift, and that is what we’re continuously committed to providing. Our space is built on love, experience, and a strong foundation of breath, movement, and strength. We value compassion, courtesy, community, commitment, and connection. This is a place where everyone is welcomed with respect, open minds, and open hearts.
I’ve been teaching full-time for nine years now. I completed my first 500-hour training in 2014, and since then, I’ve completed an additional 600 hours of advanced study and taught more than 2,000 hours of classes. Teaching in cities across North America, Los Angeles, Columbus, Miami, Phoenix, Canada, and even Nicaragua, confirmed something very clear for me: this is what I’m meant to do.
In my early years of teaching yoga, I also discovered barre and immediately fell in love. It brought me back to my roots as a competitive dancer. Barre is very different from yoga, but equally powerful in its own way. It blends discipline, strength, and artistry, and for me, it felt like coming home.
Creating CA Yoga Barre has been one of the most meaningful experiences of my life. I built this space intentionally, grounded in principles of community, integrity, and growth. I’m incredibly passionate about what we’ve created and the people who fill it. At the end of the day, it’s about connection, and I feel honored to be part of that journey with our community.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road… and I actually think that’s part of what makes it meaningful.
Building a business rooted in heart and community sounds beautiful, and it is, but it also requires resilience, hard decisions, and a lot of growth behind the scenes. There were moments of financial uncertainty, moments of self-doubt, and moments where I had to step into leadership before I felt fully ready. Opening and growing a studio means wearing every hat (teacher, mentor, marketer, accountant, problem-solver) sometimes all in the same day!
But every obstacle sharpened my vision. The struggles taught me patience, humility, and clarity about why I do this work. Honestly, I wouldn’t trade that growth for a “smooth” path.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
At CA Yoga Barre, we specialize in intelligent, alignment-based movement that blends strength, mobility, and mindfulness. Our foundation is yoga, from dynamic, heated flows to slower, restorative practices like Yin, but we also integrate barre and functional mobility training to create a well-rounded experience.
Our heated flow classes build endurance and focus. Yin offers deep release and nervous system regulation. Barre draws on the precision and strength from my dance background. And our functional classes emphasize biomechanics and longevity, helping students move better, not just sweat harder.
What sets us apart isn’t just the format of the classes, it’s the intention behind them. Every class is thoughtfully sequenced, unique to each teacher, and rooted in community. We focus on helping students build strength with awareness, challenge themselves safely, and walk out feeling empowered.
What are your plans for the future?
Looking ahead, my focus is on depth and the relationship we have with our community. I want to continue elevating the quality of our programming… advanced trainings, weekend intensives, deeper educational opportunities for teachers and dedicated students who want more than just a workout. Education is a big part of our future. My vision isn’t about becoming just bigger; it’s about becoming stronger, more intentional, and more impactful. That’s what I’m really looking forward to.
