Today we’d like to introduce you to Christopher L Smith.
Hi Christopher, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, you could tell our readers some of your backstory.
I was born in England during the “swinging sixties” to a military father and a creative mother. One of my earliest memories is of my father instructing me to photograph him and my mother at Brighton Beach on vacation. My father encouraged my ongoing interest in his hobby, which started my lifelong passion for photography. I started my career as a photographer in England, shooting local events. As my interest grew, so did my opportunities to expand to photojournalism and commercial work. I photographed fancy cheese for an advertisement; the next day, I photographed the Queen of England at an event. My photo work in England allowed me to amass a stock photo library of over 50,000 images. My photos are regularly published in travel, lifestyle, and business magazines through several stock agencies. Over a decade ago, I met a red-headed American photographer in London. We then traveled to over eight European countries together and became engaged. As a team, we jumped the pond. After five years in Florida working for local magazines, we followed the calling to “Go West” and relocated to Tucson. My long-time passion for shooting architecture from my travels has become more domestic as I now shoot Airbnb properties, real estate, and commercial buildings all from the ground and utilize drones for aerial photography.
Please talk to us about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned. Looking back, it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect.
As a lifelong freelance photographer, I can handle the challenges! All things worth doing have their challenges. Being an Englishman in America will always be challenging, but America has been kind to me. I am grateful to now be a dual citizen.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Along with being a commercial photographer, I have taken up flying drones in the last few years. I am FAA part 107 qualified and fly DJI Mavic mini and Inspire drones.
What do you think about happiness?
I am fortunate, as I have traveled to many countries. I have explored cultures, lifestyles, histories, art, and local foods through photography. I met my wife through photography, and we continue to share our travels, making us both very happy.
