Life & Work with Cash Lansky of Tucson

Today we’d like to introduce you to cash Lansky.

Hi Cash, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, let’s briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
For those who ever wondered, my name is Robert Dominic Lee Harris, better known as Cash Lansky, and born in Pittsburgh, PA. I left Pittsburgh in 1991 and moved to Anchorage. A hard-working single mother and grandmother raised me with a brother and sister. Growing up in Fairview, we only had a little, but we learned early how to make the best of what we had. This mentality is what made me who I am today. Fell in love with music at an early age, but my cousin Shadik is what sparked my interest as an artist. His passion for it was contagious. Remember spending hours in the studio and just being in the moment and fascinated by how an idea could be captured at the moment but could last forever? That was the moment I knew what I wanted to do in life. I left Alaska in 1999 and moved to Tucson, AZ, not knowing a soul. It was a culture shock, and I was truly depressed for months. I used writing as therapy to help me get through it. I used to write all of my emotions on the inside of my pillow. I never wanted my mom to find it because she only did what she thought was best for me.

Which, in hindsight, was. I was headed towards prison or dead, so thanks, ma! Love you forever! I wasn’t rapping in front of people when I came to Tucson. In that era, if you were wack, people clowned you for days at the lunch table. You had to be dope! I remember always practicing how I would move in the mirror on my Cadence when I said my punch lines. Hahaha, shit is funny now I think about it. One day at school, I finally grew the nuts to jump in freestyle and spit these 12 bars I held onto for dear life. When I finished, I remember looking around and looking for reactions; their faces let me know I had something. I didn’t know exactly what it was, but I knew it was something. Up until that moment, I never recorded a song. My best friend, Sir Ronald (rest in peace), had an older brother who always went to the studio and took me with him. We recorded over a mixtape beat, and I remember hearing my voice playback for the first time, and I knew I would spend the rest of my life trying to perfect it. Here I am, 20+ years later, still at it.

You wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
This road has been far from smooth. The obstacles are what build the character. I wouldn’t change it for anything tho. I truly fell in love with the process early on.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a hip hop aritst. I specialize in speaking the truth from a point of view. I can create energy with words. I take pride in my live performances. I am most proud of my kids and being a dad. I love that shit! My wife and I were able to create these memories for them. Yeah, I take a lot of pride in that. My fingerprint is what sets me apart. There’s only one on this earth.

Any big plans?
I plan on continuing to create the best music my soul allows. I have a few projects that are either finished or in the works that I plan on dropping this year. I also have a Non-Profit Organization called “A Hand Up Not Hand Out” that is community-based. We are working on a Sober living home and wellness center. Our Wellness center will be a safe place for African American and Mexican America youth dealing with mental health and also learning about one’s culture.
