Life & Work with Brett Patton-Prince

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brett Patton-Prince.

Hi Brett, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?

Hi there!  I reside and work in Scottsdale, Az  I was born in Colorado and growing up I moved a lot between Arizona , Utah, Idaho and California as my mother was very ill with cancer and us kids needed to stay with other families.  Myself and siblings spent time in foster homes and our mother passed when I was about 8 or 9.  At15 I decided to strike out on my own and became emancipated at 16.  At 17 started college to become a paralegal.  I got married very young and had two little girls by the time I was 18. I dropped out of school to go to work. I didn’t have a car so was taking the bus to different temp jobs. I needed to make more money so as soon as I was old enough I stared working in bars. The tips helped us survive. I met a lot of people via the bar industry and ended up getting into modeling and doing trunk shows throughout the country and then got into doing PR for night clubs. This led me going to Tokyo at 19 years old, by myself with $20 in my pocket! I went there to work in some international clubs like One Eyed Jacks. That was such a cool experience. I went there twice for two months at a time after that. And I am looking forward to going back to Japan some day.

I continued in the entertainment/PR industry until I was 27 and decided to go back to school and get my degree. So, after having my 3rd baby at 30 years old, oh and getting married, again, I went back to school, got a BS in Legal Sciences. I worked relentlessly raising kids, working full time and going to school, it was a grind, but it showed me what I am capable of. I ended up graduated with multiple honors and a high GPA – yay me! and while I was preparing for the LSAT my then 18 year old daughter had a child, who I ended up taking custody of and she has been with me every since and is a true joy in my life. She is 14 now!

You thought I was done didn’t you! haha, nope – After 18 years my then husband and I decided to call it quits. I already had my career in law but it was boring me and I needed more. My personal trainer, and model, Jared Dallstream, who introduced me to a photographer who invited me to assist in a shoot an event one night and something happened, and I fell madly in love with the camera!  Since then, I have been working as a litigation paralegal for 3 law firms and doing as much volunteer work in the fashion industry as I can for places like FABRIC in Tempe, Phoenix Fashion Week, The Garment League, Tempe Fashion Week (I am the swag bag lady :)), which is a total blast. And they let me take pictures!

In the past three years I have been blessed enough to meet an amazing crew of photographers who have helped me hone my skills immensely. Our Arizona fashion industry photographers are a cool group of individuals.

I opened MisPrinceArts, LLC in 2022 am now the staff photographer for Green Living Magazine based here in Scottsdale, Arizona. My business has done shoots for designers such as Couture Aprons and YagerRoad designs. I am currently working to build my business into set design. I love to shoot Imelda outdoors and I love the fashion shows. But I want to create my own sets to shoot. So that is what is coming up for MisPrinceArts, LLC!

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I specialize in designer and brand shoots.

I truly love helping someone become successful and watching them grow, so I do tend to find models and help them find their way into the industry. I am very much a feminist and believe in supporting women in business and women who are just making a life for themselves unapologetically. I could go on for hours about human rights issues.

Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
I have been living in Scottsdale off and on since I was 19. I remember when they were building the waterfront and they took out Jets and Stix – Ah, man, that sucked!

I love how beautiful Scottsdale is and the many choices of things to do here. I do not like that my office overlooks the bar district here and therefore it gets super loud on weekday afternoons with girls hooting and hololr9ing and the very loud music. That is no fun. But where else will you see a 60-year-old lady riding her bicycle topless? It happened. I saw it! LOL.
