Today we’d like to introduce you to Ben Hoffman.
Hi Ben, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I am a professional triathlete that is originally from Grand Junction, Colorado. I started my career at the University of Montana as part of their collegiate club team back in 2004, winning a national title in my senior year. I moved back to Colorado after school, and started to visit Tucson in the winter of 2008, escaping from the freezing temps and snow for the relative warmth of the Sonoran desert. As my career blossomed, with a 2nd place finish at the Ironman World Championships in 2014 and multiple Ironman victories, we bacame more full-time in Tucson. The training environment, community, culture, and reliable weather were instrumental in my successes. In 2019, we welcomed our first child, our daughter, Josephine, and then her brother, Julian in 2021. I have continued to race at the Ironman distance, with 8 victories and 4 other top 10 finishes at the World Championships. I was also able to guide a visually impaired athlete for the 2023 and 2024 seasons, culminating with a 4th place finish at the 2024 Paris Paralympics. I am now nearing the end of my professional career, but plan to continue competing in some different events, and focusing more of my energy on my children.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I have had incredible support throughout my career, but definitely many setbacks as well. Injuries, lack of sponsorship, and even the global pandemic in 2020 were significant challenges that I had to navigate with the support of my team.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
In my offseason, I love to revisit some of my artistic roots, whether by woodworking, welding, or even ceramics and photography. This creative outlet is important for me to complete the reset each season and be ready for the work ahead.
Who else deserves credit in your story?
My wife is the biggest supporter, followed closely by my parents and sister, as well as extended family. My sponsors, many of them close friends, have allowed me to pursue the highest levels of sport and still be able to make a living and support my family. I have an incredible team around me, from coaches, massage therapists, physiotherapists, nutritionist, and many friends and training partners. Everyone plays a very important role in my health and success.
